great topic, just wondering how you cleaned the rest of the sound proofing off the floor? ive chipped all of it off just the rubishy bits left

Thanks mate, a flat thin scraper like you use to get off wall paper, that gets off most of the little bits. Then white spirit or similar to remove the gloop that's left.

I used petrol, but you have to be carefull.

Engine in, it took longer because I kept getting distracted by things.

Made a nicer rad bracket, the other one was pitted, and rubbish. Also, steal is too heavy!!! :(

You can't realy see it, but the heater pipes infront of the rocker box have been stripped and polished, and the crappy black plastic joiner removed and a nice shiney blue one fitted. The engine is about fitted, but it wouldn't start. I have no idea why though, I think I flooded it. Will try with a fully charged battery tomorrow.

Glad to hear you sorted the siezed engine mate. Don't sell the turbo bits. You'll regret it.

Are you sure the cam didn't move when you did the chain?

Pretty sure. Although if nothing else works I'll have to check it, I'll take the rocker box off and see what the valves are doing at tdc.

At TDC, both valves are shut on cylinder 1. Cam timing seems fine.

Got a strobe? Check timing.

Any chance you knocked the dizzy on taking the engine out twice, and rotated it a bit?

Try twisting the dizzy a smidge in either direction, whilst turning it over, see if it makes a difference.

And check the points and condensor.

Then, if it comes to it, strip and blast the carb.

With all the problems you've been having, i'd expect you to be used to a non-starting mini, i know i am!

I did play with the dizzy and got it running a bit. But I KNEW that I didn't move the dizzy, so something else wasn't right.

Bloody. Hopefully it's just a close shave mate and nothing has smacked into anthing. Didn't sound like it had anything hitting something so i'd guess it should be okay.

At least you've found the problem now .
