Have you put a long bolt in for the clutch slave through transfer casing?
Just put a technical thread up and that was suggested, I'll go have a look now.

oh dear you have lost the mini bug lol. i think that every single person that has a mini which they are working on has had this killer thing i have had it when you suddenly lose interests and cant be bothered or even want to sell it and start a fresh. i have gone through that many times . what gets me motivated is seeing another nice mini passing by then you think oh sh*t i best get going.

Had that last year, got over it. The engine will come out, problem fixed and drive tomorrow.
Mate is doing a track day in 2 weeks. Might try join him with my little wagon here.

Oh and im a nob, i realised that this was the wrong way around when putting it together, I must have just put it back on excactly the same again.
When torquing the pulley down, it jammed the chain against the timing plate.
You can see where the chain has dragged against the screw here.
