How come it's a different colour? Did you use a different paint or do too many layers or something?

Not sure, probably too many layers, although I didn't do anything different too the arches and they came out the same as the car. May be down too the filler primer and not using grey primer on the top. Ah well, I'll give it another go some time.

Doesn't help the fibreglass is rubbish, and the flex in it seems too show up the filler in it. May try another bonnet.

Although I am planning a fibreglass clubby flip front in the future.

Paint hasn't quite hardened up yet so not had a chance too buff up the paint yet. Although it will just be a case of polishing a load of scratches.

Oh and incase your wondering about the dent in the bumper, I came a bit hot onto my drive way and just nudged the wall  theres a little dent in the rear one, so may get 2 new ones at combe.

Much prefer the blue arches mate. Looks a lot slicker.

I sense a foreign engine change coming along in the future with that front planned .

At uni at the moment and still waiting on internet so no updates. Just driving the mini, its got a petrol leak so windows down all the time. Ive seen the problem and its the clip on that carb so will replace that and all shall be well. Steering rack has gone on it so driving it home was horrible, too much play in it. So will park it up and try get it home on a dolly, or a frame or something too get it home.

If you can get over before the blue one goes from here, there are 2 good bumpers on it. Leave your old ones and nobody will notice!

My seating position is rats. So I have had the seat and subframe out of mine, 1000% better now I have got rid of the ones the seats came with.

PS THought you were coming over tonight.

Also good to see the engine was an easy fix and its back on the road. :proud:

mini_mad69,

Did you get insurance on your 1380 from 17 years old? With who did you do it? I could be in a similar situation soon :proud:

I was planning on it, but as you can see in the previous post my steering rack has gone, dont realy want too risk it. I did text you, may have sent it too your old number thinking about it now.

Nope, from 19 mate, worked up 1 years no claims on 998 engines and then dropped in the larger engines once I was 18.

The first couple of years is realy hard too insure. SO may aswell just drive around on a less powerfull engine, enjoy decent mpg and cheaper premiums.

On the other hand though I just got 40 mpg out of the 1380 so im happy with that. Need too fit a new steering rack though. Although I tightened up the pinch bolt unbelievably tight and it seems too be better. Atleast i may be able too get the car home now.

I've been waiting for progress on this. Any ideas why the head gasket went?

When you putting all the new stuff on?

Engine steeadys a bit loose. Knocked the carb around a bit, manifold gasket leaked, sucked in air, ran lean, burnt out the head gasket. Seems logical anyway.

Next weekend should see some progress.

I need to go back out and torque up the head properly as I didn't have a torque wrench at malvern and guessed. Very pikey.

I take it the head was okay? No cracks?

Yeah head was fine. Block was perfect aswell so happy days. It didn't lose alot of power when it went so I didnt suspect head gasket only that the manifold was loose.

Just went out too torque the head properly and it clicked on every bolt, soooooooo i think my attempt at guessing the torqe went wrong and the head has too much torque on it. Ah well, its running fine anyway. I've got a few pictures too upload as i've only got internet access in my new house today. But ive lost my camera lead.
