I've got quick release ones in the post. So im not even going too bother with it for a few days, I know I'll get fustrated with it, I usualy brake things when I do.

Only thing Is I have no idea whats wrong with it, so don't know what too look for when it's apart. And the only way I can test it is by putting it back in the car :D

I need my transport back!!!!!!!!!!

SO took the engine out AGAIN! the flywheel was 180 degrees out so the stepped washer didn't torque it down properly :D

Feel a little silly now. Hopefully that'll be it sorted now and be back on the road. I do get the feeling that something else is up with it though. It can't be that simple.

Oh and the crank tail is pretty knackered now, so im going too see if I can find a knackered 1275 and get the crank out of it. Then do an engine rebuild on it.

Thanks for the support guys, I can go 6 months without a care in the world and then fall into a world of problems. I'll admit, I do tend to get a rush on, because this is my only car, and without it im stuck in a poxy little village without a shop, bus service or anything else for that matter, it's an hour cycle into town and I realy can't be bothered, so you can see why I like too have my car on the road. So im back in uni at the end of sept, im not sure im going to be able too do the old engine rebuild in that time. I may get all the bits together and take it easy until half term or xmas and give the 1380 a bit of a upgrade. Im thinking, high lift rockers, better exhaust manifold, and maybe a centre main strap and finally fit my central oil pickup, realy regret not fitting that.

Im now tempted down the forced induction route. I've got pretty handy with the MIG welder so, a bulkhead box should be no problem.

I just need to find a suitable donor engine now.

Im going too wait for my new engine mounts too arrive before I refit the engine, so tomorrow Im going too clean, paint the head and do a little wiring tidying, as you can see in previous picutures, its a bit of mess under the bonnet.

I've also got too fill, re-inforce and paint my new bonnet, fit up some new mounting plates for the dzus fastners, and respray/fill the front end from all the damage. I just wish I could have some help, my old man has decided i Know minis better than him, so doesn't help me at all, and all my mates realy don't want too, because im working on it so often. >_<

Painted the head too match the block. Ported the inlet tract, modified the carb, and took the 1.5" spacer out too 1.75" too match the rest. Never realy noticed before but my inlet manifold is crap. So that will have too be removed and ground out once I get a decent grinding stone too fit my drill. Hopefully that work will give me a teeny bit more top end performance.

Just engine mounts too go and then I should be back on the road, I am a little worried about the crank tail though.

Engine mounts collected. Engine in. Clutch works beautifuly, engine pulls well, a little more low down torque after the inlet mods I think.

Just can't get the bottom fuse of the fusebox too become live. I can't see where the problem is. I've got the haynes wiring diagram, but for the life of me can't find where the feed from the bottom fuse comes from.

Im realy struggling here, have been tryong too sort it for about 2 hours now.

Im not sure what the actual problem was. I've fitted new spade connectors everywhere. Soldered a few wires which were damaged. Tinned up a load of conectors, replaced all the fuses. Cleaned even more terminals. Then had another go and it seems to be working fine. I probably should have checked it as I was going along. But couldn't have hurt too do some maintainance too my loom anyway. The sidelights were playing up aswell, but I think the switch could do with a clean up. Tomorrow I think I'll finish prepping my new fibreglass bonnet Maybe start spraying my rear arches. Also ring the carphone warehouse and see where the hell my phone is.

caliper is up side down. bleed niple is ment to be at the bottom

No it's not

they're all wrong then.

think about it, air will rise. so when fluid comes into the caliper in the middle, the fluid will drop to the bottom, then rise up from there, leaving any trapped air at the top. Bleed nipples should go at the top.

Excactly what I was going too say.

Woop I was right :D

Ben, How do you find it runs with the ride height so low? Do you ever have issues with the tyres scrubbing on the arches over bumps?

I find it ok at this height. I don't have issues with scrubbing even with 3 people and an engine in the boot. I just have the shocks wound up so it's incredibly stiff though. It is too stiff and I have too avoid dips or bumps in the road. I can just about make small speed humps but most of them I have too take at a funny angle too keep 1 wheel on it. It does handle very well aswell. The main problem is that it's so stiff when cornering hard, if I hit a bump the car tends too hop, which completly ruins the cornering. It's not idealy suited for everyday, which is what I use it for.

Interesting about the no scrubbing, what suspension set up is on the rear?? Standard subframe?? What dampers are you running?? Mines low too (looks roughly the same ride height on the rear) and rubbing more than it used to on my arches. Im sure mine are shot as they are years old now, so im looking at new dampers atm.

Shame to see the engines had to come out again! but sounds good atm, fingers crossed for you!! Were the quick release mounts any good??

I have GAZ adjustable dampers. Hi los. Standard subframe. Standard rubber doughnuts.

I was out in it just now and I was clipping the cat's eyes, no, im not joking.
I have nothing in the boot. Just a tin of tyre weld.

I have to be honest, it's too stiff. Any bumps in the road cause it too bang and crash along.

Im going too raise it 15-20mm and slacken off the dampers a bit.
