Very interested in how this turns out and runs, just starting do do the same down the road in Cardiff.

Some bits will be slightly higher spec'd will have a stage 4 head and run a 45 weber.

Have to meet up at one of the events when both complete to compare and natter

Rofert

Absolutly, are you on any of the welsh forums? some cool people on there.

Luckily with this engine it allows for further modifications, I can drop on a new head, slap on a webber and i've got the cam and capacity below to compliment them. I do plan too add a better head in the future, but at the moment im in my overdraft, and kinda skint, I spend all my money on my mini

Oh and SFM, yes I do go OTT, I hate oil leaks with a pasion, my car has leaked 1.5 gallons in about 4 weeks.

Spec of the engine for now will be:

73.5mm bore = 1380cc
powermax dished pistons
turbo rods
.10 machined crank
Kent 286 cam
standard pressed 1.27' rockers
duplex timing gear
Ported MG Metro leaded head v
valve sizes are: Inlet = 1.401"/35.6mm, Exhaust = 1.15"/29.2mm
HIF44 carb
Alloy heated inlet manifold
drilled airbox with K&N element
minisport lCB
Maniflow 1.75" twin box system
3.21 final drive
metro turbo diff
1275 distributor
standard clutch (for now)

It may change but this should be the the spec going in.

Ben

Out of curiosity..why are you fitting spi gearbox and not the 998 one with the 3.44 final drive?

By the way the specs sounds good for either power and reliability.

It's actualy a metro turbo final drive, on a 998 gearbox. I seem to be doing more and more motorway miles and wanted it to be a bit more livable.

Ah ok, thought u were using the gearbox from your 1275. Yes, a 3.2 final drive is better on motorways.
Good luck with the new engine!

Cheers andrew, you on facebook?

Ok not happy bunny, it seems my mg head is a bit weird, it sticks on the studs of both engines, took half hour to take it off the SPI.
Engine is pretty much finished, ran into a few problems, mainly not being able to get a lift up to the garage.

Ah well, engine is in. It hasn't started yet, and i got bored, cold and wet so I gave up and came home.

I need a new throttle cable as mine is wrecked and I can't get another one now for about 5 days. I also need a new oil preasure switch as mine broke.

It almost started, im going to have to fiddle with the timing tomorrow as I managed to get a pretty impressive backfire out of the exhaust and carb.hat
Good news is, is that it's holding all it's oil and water without 1 leak as of yet.

Jobs for tomorrow:

Source throttle cable and fit it.
Source and fit oil preasure switch
sort out the timing
get engine running
tune engine
fit breathers, washer bottle and other little bits etc etc

then I'll drain the oil and put fresh oil in and drive it home.

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after about 7 or 8 months of work I finally have a working 1380 in my car

Managed to get a throttle cable, but it's way too short and crap, so too enable to stop it from sticking the cable has to be slack so im only getting around quater to half throttle. SO, I'll order a proper one so I can drive it a bit better, still taking it easy at the moment though. Once i've got it running smoothly and with a proper cable, I'll get a video of taking it for a blast.
