As soon as big end caps are tightened it siezes. Bad times, going to have to measure it and maybe re grind it.

with yr 1380 sounds like the bearings are the wrong size on either the mains or the big end id have these checked by a machine shop just 2 be sure apart from that you have an awsome mini
I was thinking that but the shells are the same size as the old ones, checked with a micrometer. I recieved the engine in pieces and I think that when the person took it apart they just popped any old cap on the big ends. Im just going to have to take the shells out and put them together and try to match the caps to the rods. I think this is the issue anyway. Ive got all the parts to put it together now aswell.
My mg head is now on but the car runs quite badly, I need a new needle for it as the fueling is quite far out. Doesn't idle but drives quite smoothly, hopefully once it's all tuned nicely I should have a bit more oomph!

Ripped out the driveshafts and towed it too my nans house where it will recieve a new gearbox this weekend. Luckily I had a spare. Going to try and get a hardened diff pin aswell for peace of mind.
Look after your diffs!!!!!

Get a X-pin in there!
Can't afford it, going to get a hardened diff pin if I can, but if I can't i'll just take it easy until the 1380 goes in, if ever.
Jus got my gearbox off my old 998, it's had the top surface skimmed as it's perfect almost mirror finish on it, unlike any other gearbox i've seen. I probably won't get many pics of this repair as i need to be going flat out in time to get it repaired for uni. This is the gearbox that was attatched to the bell housing currently on my engine so should match up quite nicely. I realy want to know what went wrong in the box now. It has been making an odd noise recently so thats probably it, oh and the sump plug was covered in rubbish realy realy coated in filings.
