Made a small amount of progress. Only small though. Been struggling though, as my loom was knackered I bought a second hand one. Was told it was mint, but when I got it, it was knackered. Cut in half, plugs missing and just in not great shape, but better than mine.

Also made the decision to just get it legal asap now, so won't bother painting it properly. Will prep and paint around the window edges etc and then I can just mask them up when it comes to the top coat etc as I can't afford it at the moment.

2B7040A7-5ED0-4DF6-94A8-9DFA771D6CC1_zps

Heres a taster of the colour though, similar to how it was before, just a bit darker and deeper.

7057918D-2343-4968-91AC-DF3F520ED939_zps

Started making connections to connect up the front and rear halfs of the loom that where chopped.

14F651BF-8791-4482-90DC-5C09DF99F2AA_zps

I soldered the connections and heat shrinked them. It took aaaaaaages.

Showing some signs of life.

I hate messy wiring, and this car was one of the messiest when I took it off the road, so will try and make it neater this time. So the loom doesnt run across the bulkhead and inner wing. I've run it behind the dash and on the outside of the inner wing. Going through a hole in the plate I welded in to cover the vent.

5636F324-F8B7-4FC6-BCEB-D459F0578410_zps

Then made up a loom for the removable front end, which connects using a trailer plug for ease of removal.

7638DCC3-4CEF-41A1-B439-1D938EDA83F5_zps

With having the vauxhall engine in there, the main wiring points for starter etc are all wrong, so I had to substitute jumper cables to the battery which is sitting near where the rear seats would usually be for the time being. Just while I was testing.

This process is taking ages, because I have a bodged loom, the switch gear on my car is all wrong for the year and loom.
But the biggest issue I have is that i'm colour blind and can't see the colours of the loom, so am having to use my multimeter on every connection to try and work it out whats what.

For someone who hates electrics, I'd say you've done a pretty good job there man!

Well, actually it was a little neater than that. I used proper loom tape after the pics to finish it off. But i'm not great at electrics, its not very neat. But I decided to solder every joint and heatshrink it all just for reliability, cannot be arsed with wires coming off or anything like that and it stopping. Got used to having cars that worked over the last 3 years.

I still need to wire the engine loom into it, wire up the two fuel pumps, sort the shorting wiper circuit and sort out an alternator/ wiring. All i've really done is the lights.

Make a dash and wire in some gauges as it has nothing for gauges at the moment.

Paint it/rollcage

Fit glass

Fit front/boot properly

fit handbrake cables

Get some new tyres

Fit new bias valve

make passenger seat mounts/fit harness'

Re-do a brake line i'm not happy with.

Insure - tax - MOT

Crash it into a hedge driving to newquay.

Yeah crashing is mandatory. Im interested to see if it can be done in a grandad car renowned for safety

I still need to wire the engine loom into it, wire up the two fuel pumps, sort the shorting wiper circuit and sort out an alternator- kinda done

alternator wiring needs finishing.

Make a dash and wire in some gauges as it has nothing for gauges at the moment. Still need to do.

Paint fit/rollcage still need to do

Fit glass still needed

Fit front/boot properly still needed
fit handbrake cables still needed
Get some new tyres to do
Fit new bias valve - done!
make passenger seat mounts/fit harness still needed
Re-do a brake line i'm not happy with- half done

Was given this alternator a year ago, nice and small but not idea what it was from, as there were no markings on it. After being told to buy a daihatsu charade one. I noticed it was similar to the one i had been given. Turns out it was a charade one, i think.

Modified the engine mount bracket to hold the alternator.

F1A457F0-B849-4D05-AFC0-4E2ACD1923C2_zps

After not being able to fit a single v pulley on the alternator, I fitted my z18xe crank pulley on my engine.

88816465-2492-4717-9508-83748477D0E3_zps

Made an adjusting bracket. Ha

ACAB1FFE-2EFB-48E5-AE9C-BEFC0DCC1237_zps

At just under maximum adjustment it hits the grill. It looks like there is some material I can take out to make more room if i need it. I ordered a belt that hopefully will mean the alternator won't need to sit to far from the block.

0DA9ACAC-988C-4378-8A1C-29A49481EF95_zps

Hopefully it'll start looking more like a car soon. I've got some more wiring to do and make some sort of dash panel to mount some gauges and switches and stuff.

Made bracket to hold the trailer plug on inner wing.

7BA8C95E-87DD-400F-ADB7-490C5FE7EFF9_zps

Been wiring more things in, took me a while to work out why I wasn't getting power out of this.

6890F971-F1AB-4305-845B-D73D1FEC17D0_zps

Didn't have 13s on before, do you usually have to cut the rear edge of the arches?

6BDC54A4-D227-411D-A414-A47A6A5925D0_zps

Internal loom is starting to come together. The mini loom runs the lights, wipers etc

And everything else like engine, alternator fueling etc all runs off new stuff I'm adding. which seems to be never ending.

Fitted my new fusebox down in the wheel arch, same place as the MPI cars. I'm running this 10 blade box to run my ignition run things, like alternator, gauges, fuel pumps, rad fan etc and I'll order another smaller one for the constant live things.
I think it's quite clever, when a fuse blows it puts the little LED on next to it to help with fault finding. Not sure what to do with a dashboard at the moment, I want one of those carbon fibre ones with the centre panel running to the floor, but they're expensive. Might just chuck a sheet of aluminium in to just hold the switches and gauges in.

Drilled out the old dzus fastners that the previous owner of the front end fitted. I didn't want these.

BAE896C1-689F-4249-A230-C6A4B9556C9C_zps

I wanted these, mainly because I know a number of my friends would think its funny to take the front off unless it could be locked.

Never seen the wheel scrub the rear of the wheel arch, anyone else seen this?

5BA187F1-4CFE-4E4C-B697-4AE4B43333AA_zps

Aero catch fitted. I'll plug up the hold from the dzus fastner later on, a bit of fibreglass should sort it.

Obviously going to need to cut the front edge, standard for fitting larger wheels.

A16CB635-9EBF-4F9B-BD87-3CE4CF96F89E_zps

Hours of faffing with the front, and it's starting to fit nicely.

04E9D6AB-9080-440E-A562-A2B6A6253BB7_zps

Stuck the front together a bit more. You'll notice previously in the thread I made a loom for the front, didn't think at all that the H4 connectors would have to come off to go through the headlight bowls, so had to change that.
