Still waiting on new pistons to arrive icon_sad.gif Been told they have been posted today, but I doubt it.

null_zps4a842d39.jpg

Bodged an exhaust together, its vauxhall at the front end (obviously) welded (bodged) to a play mini system for the back end. I was trying to get an RC40 system to fit, but it was the wrong diameter, rusty and just looked naff. So picked up this playmini setup very cheaply. It's got a load of bodges along it's length, but it'll work for now. And this is only a temporary exhaust anyway. Looking to do something a little different at the back end once its running.

The exhaust mountings are not pretty, but seem to be working. I'll try and find some pipework to complete my cooling plumbing and run it up to temp and see how it sounds and runs. Having it only run for 20 seconds with no cooling system, I'm not really sure how the engine is. I blocked up the servo pipe on the inlet mani, which may explain why it ran a little lumpy when I first ran it.

Linked up my return fuel line a bit better by making this.

Thats the engine, exhaust, cooling system etc all in. Just need to mount up an alternator to fit in there, which I've got and a mount which I know fits under this front.

just need to shim the engine a bit at the back to bring the inlet away from the masters.

So with a new set of plugs and a return line in a better diameter it's running alot smoother.

Naaa, you can see the red backbox is just a rc40 just sitting there.  Your old playmini is the one making all the noise.

Took the front subframe out, and got the Nova throttle cable fitted into the bulkhead.

And back in.

This is with the back of the engine all shimmed up. I put in all of my shims and the engine is still horribly close to my master cylinder, has anyone else found this?

A while ago I bought some new old stock pair of calipers, both for non vented discs and both Nearside calipers, no good to me. But the split seals and pistons are perfect to rebuild mine. To get the pistons out of my calipers I used a grease gun in the bleed nipple and slowly pressed them out. It took ages, with loads of grease and mess everywhere. So I used a more direct route.

vuala a set of pistons ready to rebuild my calipers.

Done, just need a lick of paint, but will do a test of them before I do that.

I bought the NOS caliper for around 2/3rds the price of a set of pistons, so used the split seals, bleed nipples and pistons from them and bought a seal kit off ebay.

I got one bolted up. Will fit up the rest of the brake lines and bleed it all tomorrow. I should be able to drive it up and down the driveway if all goes well.

Tried to fit driveshafts finish all the transmission/mechanics etc

Had loads of problems but got them sorted eventually.

Cut an old bearing off a CV.

CV all clean.

All built up.

39BF10A2-DA92-46DE-933C-2122673E543C_zps

And that side.

Tried to get it drivable but had an issue, realising I've used imperial fittings into my new willwood bias valve and knackered it up. So may need to get a new one or see if the threads can be recovered. If I can sort the brake line and bleed the clutch tomorrow, it would drive.... Maybe.

oblem.

The tyre came off the rim! must have been flat.

But hey ho, it drives!! the clutch feels great, the brakes need bleeding as they are madly spongey. I wish I had a big yard to take it for a proper spin. Next up is start on doing the wiring properly and make up a loom for the whole car and stick some gauges on it too see what the engine is doing. Bit its getting there!!
