would fitting an alloy 48mm throttle body in place of the plastic 48mm be benificial? or a complete waste of time?
cant see how it would improve anything, but mini suppiers sell them for a simular price to the 52mm alloy ones
if anyone can share advice or experience on this matter it would be apreciated.
cheers

ally better than plastic.
48mm throttle better than 52mm throttle, unless you have a fire breathing engine and even then it doesnt really make much difference.
Now to add my bit.
The plastic throttle bodies are prone to cracking so if yours is cracked and causing a problem then yes get an ally one. if it is ok then i would leave it for now. i doubt the re is any benefit from changin it if it isnt broken.

The same happened on k series engines which is why rover eventually started fitting alloy one's to cure this problem, the 48mm alloy is supposed to be a direct replacement for a warped plastic one, a 52mm is again a direct replacement but in addition give improved airflow. I have a 52mm alloy one on mine and it does give very very slightly better throttle response but that's it.
If you can get an alloy one for £5 I would say go for it, don't expect it to be any different to a plastic one but at least it's worth it knowing it's not going to warp.

hi, yes i asked the question in turbominis first, as that is the forum i mainly use. am building a turbocharged '63 saloon, but have a 98 coopersport for every day driving.i asked here as i know this forum has an injection specific area. i resprayed the cooper and restored it to original about 3 months ago. just looking for ways that i can possibly get a little more performance for cheap.

If your looking for performance it has been proven that longer throttle bodies don't make any difference as a performance upgrade, Sprocket, minispares and miniboo has pointed this out many of times on this forum. I can't remember the correct science but if you search through sprockets posts you'll find it there.
