I am very sorry to hear about this unfortunate breakage...
Are there any signs of pitting on the shaft that would explain the failure?
Not that is immediately apparent, will know more when I put the replacement in there.

We might have to start calling the Beast the Guinea Pig...
Either way this is good to know about the Z shaft.... and thanx for keeping us informed with these kinda things..
Heres to smoother track days...
P.S.
Ive been off the Grid for a while, but I still have the Project progressing ever so slowly, I even have a few Bits coming in from rougese7en this next week... cant wait, this should help fuel the fire.. =)
I feel more confident now after talking with Z's that the replacement should be good, I guess if it were to happen again then there would be more to be concerned about.......
Looking forward to some updates on your project and I used a to find a few new bits tended to get me out there......

Not entirely true, Chris snapped a driveshaft in the red hayabusa when i went up for a demo about 5 years ago.
OK, maybe the first VTEC driveshaft???

Hi mate,
did you ask chris what type of driveshafts they used in the 400+ bhp supercharged VTEC mini they built a few years ago?
I remember seeing it at their factory during my trip over there...
I'm ordering my kit next week, hopefully the rebuild of my accident damaged mini will start very soon!!

Hey Andrea, long time.....
I didn't ask but am assuming they are the same, after it happened I looked into snapped driveshafts and it would appear that it is a faulty bit of steel as normally driveshafts snap where there has been machining, so normally at or very close to the transition into the splines. I am hoping this is genuinely a one-off and once the replacement is in I need not worry about it again.......if it does happen again then I will change my tune, benefit of the doubt this time.
I look forward to seeing yours back on the road, no trees this time......

Hi mate.
Yeah me too.
I have bought a british open mini to dismantle. I'm ordering the new kit hopefully this week, but i need to decide which optional bars i want to be added first.
My old race spaceframe was not safe at all in the feet area. In case of a crash, the front subframe transfera all the crash forces to the mini's floor pan, deforming it badly.
I want to add a straight bar under the cross-section of the door openings, and to reinforce the gearbox tunnel area.
Will soon update my thread.
Keep up the good work with your MINI.
Cheers
Andrea

BOOT LID HEAT PROTECTION
Pretty much what it says on the tin really:
my boot lids carbon Andy I think I will still fit the heat shielding!

Adding heat shielding wont do it any harm. My exhaust is now ceramic coated but in hindsight I should have re-wrapped it to help with heat management, the lava rock stuff i used in the photos above is really good, no wetting of material, no itchy hands from the fiberglass......

For those that are interested this is what my snapped driveshaft looked like when I removed it - Shear Failure in Torsion:

'They' say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.......
Well I should be flattered then as this morning I received a pm from a guy called Emin who is a mini collector and restorer in the US. He did the below for a buddy of his, turns out he liked my paintwork.............

My ceramic coating was around the £250 mark from these guys: http://www.camcoat.u...om/Exhausts.htm I havent seen a Zircotec covered exhaust be put through the same as my coating to know if you still get a glow when under load, I know Zircotec is more expensive?!?!? Watch my dyno video to see what I mean by glow http://www.theminifo...spec/?p=2479498
As for bleeding brakes you just have to be methodical and ask someone to help you. I started with the inner bleed valves on each four pot, then to the outer and then checked the inner again just for piece of mind. If you've never bled a brake system before I suggest you google it.

The first dry day in weeks was not going to go without blowing the cobwebs out
I happened across a buddy of mine in his M5, this was his response:

I attended the Supercar Sunday Breakfast Club at Goodwood on the weekend, amazing turn out of cars and about 15,000 people. I blagged it past the car parkign guys to get myself to the gate to be confronted by a man insisting that I had to have registered online before the event to be able to get the car on the circuit to display it. Fortunately one of the people in charge at the gate, a few meters in front of where I had been stopped recognised the car as I could see him mouth "I've seen that car before, it goes like F**K", consequently I was given a circuit pass.....
Note crowd round mini, not so much round the 458 next to it........
