So what settings do Z Cars recommend and what settings did you end up? Are you still using the big 205 tyres on the rear and how does it handle with the tall sidewall?

Good question.

As for Zcars recommendations I can only go on what Chris had posted on here >>Click me for the original post<<:

the settings we now use after tweeking for several years are as follows
front half a degree negative camber each side
toe 1 mm each side
caster 3.5 degrees
rear 1.5 degrees negative camber
1.5 mm toe in each side

I will have to get back to you with my setting as they are written down at home and I am currently at work.

As for the sidewall, yer you get a bit of roll especially in the slower corners but it aint too bad, I will wait until I can run it with some 225/45's before I make a final judgement.

How wide are your rear wheels? Did you have to run spacers?

Mine are 9 inch at the rear with 245s and do not clear the rear trailing arm. I have noticed that there may be insufficient thread if I run spacers...may have to look into longer wheel studs.

Thien,

They are 8" wide rears, I am currently running a 5mm spacer in there and dont have any clearance issues, I can run without spacers but wanted to bring the wheel out abit, I should be able to run with 225's without much hassle.

If you are going to be running as much power as you say you might want to go the same route as E11evens and upgrade your studs to 1/2", I would also advise if you can to get your spacers made so that the inside edge of the wheel (the hole where you can see the driveshaft nut in the hub) sits on the spacer so as to ensure perfect alignment, kinda like how it should sit on the hub without the spacer.....I hope I expalined that right??

I think I got it right... I am picturing the wheel sleeving over the spacer? I have the upgraded studs already. My concern lies in the length of the studs to provide sufficient thread for the wheel nuts.

I'll get a picture up soon in my thread. Thanks for our help and back to your thread

Yes but I keep forgetting to get them out of an evening, been busy working on the car as the N/S front wheel bearing has gone, it was a new bearing as well. Serious Knocking when going round a right hand bend, got home to fidn the wheel bearing loose, nipped it up, went out again and the noise was louder still, so last night, hub off and I aim to get new bearing in before the weekend. I posted this over in the regular mini technical section to be told that the bolts holding the steering arms are the wrong ones:

They should be SAE 8 not ISO8.8 which are the same as SAE 5 or commonly known as cheese.........

So I have now ordered the correct spec bolts and will fit them also. I am starting to get a bit fed up with having to fix things that shouldnt be going wrong so early into the life of the car and simple things like using the wrong grade bolts for steering arms just isnt good. I appreciate that there will be teething problems and fully expected that but wheel bearings going so early - errr I dont think so......

On the subject of suspension settings, I found this the other day, I received it 05-May-09 so might be out of date in terms of tweeking/development:

My rear hubs have been back twice due to issues with the bearings. Plus the other day I found the rear disc was not fitting over the hub therefor the wheel was not doing up correctly. Lucky I found that out before I drove it!

Hey Claudio

I think I ended up running Front: 0.25mm toe out and 0.6deg neg camber 3.5deg caster Rear 1.5mm Toe in and 2.5deg neg camber - I dont have my settings with me but I am pretty sure that what I ended up with, will have to confirm that. I can alter the rear neg camber myself with a camber gauge so might try it at 1.5 but it sticks well enough in the twisties for now.

check your fuel tank breather out, mine stopped letting air in some how and caused the tank to implode which in turn starved the motor of fuel which = detonation!!! its something they have found whilst stripping it!

Thanks for the heads up on that, I have a fuel pressure gauge on the dash so should be able to spot if it is losing pressure, however for the sake of a couple of miuntes I will try sucking a bit of air through the breather.

I love the colour of your frame.
Ill be ordering my z carts kit this monday, after having all the stuff for my vauxhall redtop conversion nicked :)
Decided on a volvo engined kit after a trip to gallows farm last monday.

Wondered if you could offer any advice on anything before I put the final order in? As your car is such a fine example you seem to be as good a person to ask as any

As for the problem you have acquired with burning through a set of fronts due to geometry setup, I can sympathise there.
Exactly the same happened on my daily driver, brand new bridgestone potenza's. Something like £80 a tyre and they were shot in about 2 weeks because the garage had tracked them wrong :P

I will be starting a build thread on here very soon with mine :)

Great car anyway Andy,
Would be great to see it at a show, sometime in the future!

John
