hi. i was just wonding if anyone has bought a supercharger manifold or kit and would be really kind as to meassure for me the distance from the back of the lasercut inlet plate that bolts to the head to the furthest point of the curved pipe.. in other words turn in upside down and meassure from the backside of the lasercut inlet plate(which bolts to head, side furthest from head face), straight down the middle to where the pipe goes into the plate that the charger bolts to. and meassure to the furthest point from the head or furthest side of the pipe. also the diameter of the whole cut in the top plate that the charger bolts to.
please be really kind and meassure it for me as my project has skinted me and im makin one of my own for alot less money as i have a good friend who is a fully qualified tig welder.lol... may even sell some very cheap .lol

thank you kindly!

You have to understand that people pay a lot of money for Supercharger kits.

Buy the Vmaxscart book, it's only £50.

I have many pictures of my manifolds and every dimension neccasary, but what's it worth?

If I had a supercharger I would be only too willing to help you out.

Good luck, looks like you may need it.

Same!!!

Its strange really supercharging is the only thing in the mini scene i have never been able to get much information on really, and now i understand why lol.

It might be worth sending 79flyingturd a PM and he has been very helpfull when i was trying to find info on this and im sure he will help you out...

Good luck on the search.

erm.. well nothing really as im on this forum for nice mini experts such as your selves to help me out as i would do for anyone in the same boat. if i wanted to pay for advice id ring vmax.plus if i were to have some maifolds made theyd be a hell of alot cheaper and would save everyone money wldnt it as the peop[le who supply most of the companies with there kits are from the same firm, jonspeed, morspeed, to name a few...

cheers for the pics and help tom im gonna look into it alot more now plus simon at morspeed shud let me look ive done alot for him.lol

Ok, i'm gonna be home this weekend and i am gonna do my best to get some more pictures, dimensions may be a little difficult as i have already fitted it but i will try.

If you can make your own then i suggest doing it, they are far too expensive to buy and it once you receive your very expensive manifold you kinda feel cheated out of a lot of money. Not much effort go's into these parts, its just tooling.

Good luck to anyone who try's doing things for themselves and for those who've already done it.....well lets not button ours lips either!!

much appreciated and like you said if i can help anyone who wants when when i get them made i will and defo not for £275 for an inlet either!

im in the engineering game and lasershape are accross the road from me so i will pursue an order for the top plates and the inlet section the rest is just gettin a few pieices of the rite diameter pipe bent and then welded.

I have just bitten the bullet and bought the Vmax Scart version of this kit. And although the manifolds are very well made, you can see exactly how they are made. I think alot of people are having this idea of trying to make their own due to the costs, i know that my mate is going to give it a bash.

The only other thing is the bottom pulley. My mate and I have spoken to a few engineering firms and to create the bulk of the pulley can be achieved quite cheaply, but it's the key that is cut into the centre hole that is the problem. It has to be perfectly correct and everyone we have spoke to have said this is the most difficult bit and that's why they are expensive.

Keep the post updated with how you go. If you havent got the dimensions you need, let us know and I will take some off of mine...

If you could take some pics and add measurments that would be a big big help to others thinking of making there own.

To do with the pulley, could you not just have the belt groves for the charger machined into the original mini pulley? as this would be alot cheaper than having the a full custom pulley as it could be done in minutes on a lathe... Or is the diameter of the mini pulley to small?

If you are going to make them, please make them of good quality as mine arn't, well I don't think they are anyway, take a look at my project for pics.

thanks very much for all the support. if anyone could give me measurements id be very very grateful as i am literally sat makin templates for the top lasercut plate now. as for the pulleys simon still does them for 80 rather than jonspeeds 150 at the minute. the keyway like you said would be the hardest part of the pulley but im sure if you took the woodruff key from the end of a crank measured how think it was and asked an engineering company to groove a ??? size slot in it they would.
keyways that are internal are much harder than external ones obviously as externals are milled in. im in the engineering trade so ill ask my boss how its done.

a couple of questions for this one... if anyone has the inlet could the also quickly measure from the edge of the smallest lip to the start of the hole and also the size of the hole. In one of the pictures where my pens pointing to is an area im not sure about. do you have to machine or bore this area out as the hole for the inlet sits over this bit. if you do take measurements by me sayin the smallest edge i mean the edge cleset to where my pen is on that picture. thanks very much

Also do you have to cut these legs off at the back of the chrager (picture one)

Ehhupp,
Don't bore out your charger, their is no need for that, the manifold plate will cover that area and also you have to cut one of the original BMW mounts off as it fouls on th exhaust if i remember. I'm still finishing my car and struggling for a minute for myself but i'm taking the camera tommorrow so i'll have a brew and take some pics.

Don't bore any of the area that your pen is pointing at!!!

You dont have to cut off those lugs to clear the manifold, if your making the kit, you might as well just run a single belt that does alternator, water aswell rather than use a V belt. It means you can get the charger further to the left and make everything so much easier. If you go for the Jonspeed/Vmaxx set up you will need to machine into the charger, if you use one drivebelt, you wont need to.

On mine, I've machined away all of the area in red;
