Probably just snapped due to a bad join in the chain, sometimes when fitting you can just slightly bend the link outwards and it will fail at some point or another.

Bar ends were a good idea, lizard skins ( i think ?) make some really nice ones that click into your ODI lock ons, proper neat idea!

As for 5000 miles on a chain.. Jesus christ. You checked that with a chain checker and that was a proper 5,000 miles? Like without going past its stretch point.. I'm lucky to see 1000 miles out of a road bike chain, or about 700 from the MTB chain.

Bearing in mind i change my chains early to avoid wear to the rings and cassette, rather then wear it all out and have to replace the lot.

Fair play though if it wasn't stetched out, thats probably a record.

Been convincing myself out of the powertap now though, kinda like when a workman blames his tools, if i've got all the right info there, then i can't have something to blame.. So yea, might just skip that :ermm:

Been doing some heavy riding myself recently, taken the last 4 days off away from the bike, apart from the usual 40 mins everyday. Will get back on it hard next week though.

I replaced it all (chainset, chain, cassette) because it SHOULD have been worn out, but I meshed the old chain to the new chainset and it is still meshing fine- you cant lift it off any of the links. I spin rather than grind on the pedals, and working in a bike shop my bike got as much love and attention as it needed! It did neary 20miles a day, 5 days a week, for over a year, as well as the occasional ride out for fun as well!

How long have you had your SCR2? I assumed you had only had it a few weeks, I know that would affect my decision as to replace the link or the whole chain.Under a month or so, replace chain, 1-3 months, replace link/rejoin, 4-5months+ tell em wear and tear, and lack of use for a bike is as bad as riding it hard!

a couple of pics of my bike. I'm now using a much shorter stem in a more upright position and I've managed to get comfortable.

I'm thinking that most modern road bikes have much smaller frame geometry and the top tubes seen to angle downwards, a bit like mountain bikes/hybrids. is it just me that thinks they look a bit strange?

I'm also using the suspension seat post from my hybrid, but not by choice, and it actually seems to have eased my saddle soreness, it may be because it has a small amount of side to side "float" ?????

popped into the cycle shop in the village today for a look round,
came out with some rubber covered bar ends.. as I always seem
to be holding the ends of the bars when riding thought i'd give
them ago ..

will try them out tomorrow morning..

well did 14 mls this morning, usually end up getting numb hands as i tend to ride
holding the end of the bars, after fitting the bar end amazed that no numbness occured.
would recommend any one with straight bars to get a pair of these. mine are rubber made
by tripple B's

I bought it in january so it's only like 3 months ago. It's been used pretty much twice a week since i got it (apart from when it was icy). But i'm still a bit knarked off that it has broke on me. If he just replaces the link i'll be happy because then i can get back on it. But if he tries to fob me off i think i'll have a few words to say.

Thanks,

Andrew

My friend has metal ones on his Hybrid and he swears by them. I always say you can't trust someone else's opinion, you need to find what works for you, and you have found something so that's good.

Took my bike down to the shop today and they are going to sort my chain free of charge under warranty :dozing:.

Poor steve who owns the shop though, he's actually working good friday because he has that many repairs to do. Hopefully i should get it back on saturday though in time for next week so i can get out and about next week :D.

Anorak that fixed video is funny! A friend of mine did the same thing recently, but he managed to flip over the bars and break his thumb... d'oh!

I spent £45 yesterday on these:

Knog Skink Rear

Posted Image

Knog Gekko Front

Posted Image

Schwalbe Blizzard Sport 700x23c

Posted Image

I originally didn't want the Knogs because many people said they were a bit fashion over function but I tried them out in the shop, and compared to lights with the same number of LEDs they were very good and why not pay a couple of extra quid for something that looks good. They are extra good for me because my bike has nothing unnecessary on it, and these are bracketless fitting so I can whip them on and off in seconds.

I've been getting a fair few punctures on the rear recently, and after checking my tyre that would seem to be the reason. It's got cuts, slices, and hardly any rubber left. So I thought I better get a puncture proof tyre, I'll see how it holds up to my incessant skidding!

I got nearly 5000miles between punctures on my Schwalbe stelvios, the kevlar is really good. People on the train wonder what you are ding when you pick lumps of glass out of your tyre on the way to work, but it doesnt go down!!
