Not got a pump yet, saw this one:

http://www.chainreac...x?ModelID=28858

Similar to the one suggested a few pages back but it has a gauge on it. It says it fits presta and schrader valves but do you need an adaptor to fit a presta valve to this?

Thanks,

Andrew

those pumps are amazing
when you have to pump up out on the road you can get them to high pressure quite easily

Think i've got used to the pump now. I can get fairly high pressures with it and it's not too difficult.

Anyway i rode to work again today and averaged 17.14 miles/h (according to my calcs lol), which i think is pretty decent considering it was raining this morning and the condition of the roads aren't great in my area. If we had nice smooth roads i'm sure i could get 20. Plus there's a lot of hills so that slows me down a bit too. But still 17(.14 :)) is good for a new rider i think :w00t:.

Thanks,

Andrew

yer thats good
i get that on my 10 mile commute to college on my mountain bike on a railway line

everyone still putting the miles in then ?????

I've been doing well lately with some good rides at the weekend and a 3 mile blast through town three nights a week on the hybrid

I'm reasonably comfortable on the seat now and I've been experimenting with the suspension seat post from the hybrid, set to a rather stiff setting.

I've lost nearly a stone in weight since starting again and after concentrating on getting my spinning right my legs are getting stronger all the time, with a little help from the wind  .

also been watching the cycling on British euro sport, that always inspires me to get out. ;)

Nioce to hear your back end is alright now . Yeh i've been to work twice a week every week now for the past few and it's getting a hell of a lot easier. Legs are getting a lot harder aswell. Got proper quads now lol.

That pump is pretty good aswell. Gotta give it some welly to get it up to 120 psi but it gets there in the end lol.

I don't know if it's just the people in the north east bud when yous are out on your bikes do you say hello/wave/nod/salute or something of that description to other bikers? I do to everyone i see but people just either glare back at me or ignore me .

There's only 1 old fellow which i pass on a morning who returns the wave and hello.

Especially people riding mountain bikes. I'm sure i heard an insult the other day aswell.

Andrew

well i always say morning/nod of head etc. to other riders i see when I'm out "properly" but as for just going through town, no not really.

in fact I've been seriously shocked at how few people give any consideration to the commuting cyclist. there are people who walk in the cycle lanes and then curse at you when you pass them, people who park over the cycle lanes, fellow cyclists in the cycle lanes who don't seem to know the "keep left" rule and actually ride head on into you, cars who pull out in front of you, cars that pass you then pull in and stop etc. etc. etc.

it's been an experience

I've only ridden through town once and it was okay to be honest. But there is a bus lane that runs the length of the main street so i had like 3 feet either side of me to use lol.

In town i didn't/wont nod to other cyclists just because i'll probably get my head ripped off for looking at them but on the way to work i go through a couple of villages so i thought people might be nice. Clearly not lol.

As a predominantly city rider I've gotten used to the idiots. I only shout if I'm very close to being knocked off these days. I've given up on shouting at dozy pedestrians, they won't take a hint.

Got an extra 16 miles in this weekend which i didn't think i would do. Was a really nice warm and sunny day today so i rode to my girlfriends instead of driving. Really nice ride apart from alot of it was into the wind.

I've pulled a tendon in my thigh.......which is a bit of a bugger because I'm doing the C2C again in June. Hoping it gets better by then.
I have a trek 1.5 road bike and a tourer that I use most days to get to work. Sold the mountain bikes and down hill bike two years ago when child number 4 came along and i realised I wasn't going to get the change of driving an hour to the hills to ride.

Just west to east. I pretty much live 6 mile from the east end of it.
Did the W2W last year , well recommended as an alternative.

You must live near me then bud. I live in middlesbrough.

Me and my mate are thinking about doing east to west one day then west to east the day after. Should be ... challenging .

Yup, I'm not far from nissan on the A19.
The winds a bit of a git pedaling east to west, you'll be ok of your fit enough though. The guys I ride with aren't particularly regular riders so we just take it easy with the 3 day rides, 50 mile/day.

I've recently bought a dawes 301 discovery hybrid off flee bay for £74,
doing the bhf charity ride in May , done the 25ml last year going for the
40 this year. went to the east coast over the weekend visiting and took the
bike. did 18mls on Sat morning and 36.5 mls this morning took 2hrs23mins with
a side and head wind on the way out. got up to 20mph and an average of
16mph. not been serious riding since i was about 17 i am now 42 so not bad.
knackering but i love it... recovery time is really decreasing.
love to get a road bike but funds are a bit tight
