I kindof finished my timetrial bike last night, rode it to the shops at 9pm! BUT, I went to the bike shop today asking if the guy knew anyone who wanted those spares I had for sale, and he said HE wanted them. I am swapping them for a set of 90mm rim carbon wheels and tubular tyres!! £850 worth of kit, picking it up wednesday! Will get pictures up on wednesday evening, when its all finished.

I don't like it when we have to think over how much we've spent on our bikes.. And if the bank manager knew im sure he'd give birth to a ferret.. Or something along those lines.

Still need to sort some arrangements out for this bike ride thingy ma jigger.. Seems people arn't too keen on the 100 mile thing, but i had another thought about it earlyer on today! What if it was in 20 mile laps? So the people who were up for it could do the 5 laps or at least attempt it, and the people who don't want to do 5 can just join in at whatever lap round the others are at? Would be much easier on controlling how flat it would be then also to take the strain off a little?

Right, i have desided, i am going to poor some money into this one!

i know its old! its took a right old battering. it was my winter bike, but as i am geting a new bike in a few months, i will use my best bike as the winter (the best bike will be replaces with the new one)

so i am going to overhaul this one¬¬ !

was thinking about making it into a fixy but the frame isnt really suited to that, but its a brill frame to ride, hence why i am saving it.

any ideas for it would be apresiated!

I REALLY want to test out the profanity filter on this board right now. I have just put a Duraace 10speed rear mech through a ritchey WCS wheel, ripping out 5 bladed spokes, at 30mph. NOT impressed!!

The usual- limit stop not quite set right, dogs may have knocked the bike over, and it was freezing so the cable was slightly shorter (I haev found that it DOES make a difference). This let the chain ride over between the cassette and the spokes, but I was doing 30mph. It wore through 6 bladed spokes before I could stop. I hope it hasnt trashed the hub as well.

Can't wait till Gore start making road cable sets, i've got there sealed ones on my MTB at the moment and they are proper plush, never notice a difference no matter how cold or wet it is out (i've actually had my camelbak tube freeze!).

That said, i'd personally stay away from the Nokon outers, nothing but utter hassle and noise from them.. They're great for about 2 weeks then they become pure nasty'ness!

Pretty useless post from me, but yea, rock on Gore cables and hoep they bring a road version! There about £40 now i think, but even if they were £80 i would buy them for sure. In comparison to the nokon stuff, avid stuff, xtr stuff and all the other odds and ends i've tried, you just can't fault the stuff.

Re-built the wheel yesterday and its all good. I bought some spokes from a shop, but was sold the wrong lengths...... Luckily I found some (slightly slimmer bladed) spokes at work so fitted them instead. Anyone need 5 bladed spokes in silver? Put some new cables(standard, I replace them every few months) in her as well, so she is very smooth now. Just need some carbon wheels, and enough time to ride......

you see, this is the kind of thing i was getting at a while back. so your saying that these "seemingly" expensive upgrades on things like cables are actually worth it ????

after experiencing my cheap spec shifters, i can appreciate that spending that little bit more on components is worth while but I'm wondering if the benefits are just as large at the upper end of the price range, i mean is the difference between a £1000 bike and a £1500 bike as noticeable as the difference between a £99 halfords special and a £500 proper starter bike ????.

at what point does the increase in money stop paying out in performance if/when the rider is maybe a little over weight and not exactly up to "tour de france" standard of riding.

as someone who wants to up-grade as my performance increases, i would be interested to hear opinions from people that are using the upper range stuff.

also, on the subject of the TMF ride... is it meant to be a bit of fun or something a little more ??? the reason i ask... the bike weight limit issue and the helmet or no helmet thing is kind of baffling me a bit ??? i mean, what difference would it make if i turned up on a fold-able shopping bike ??? its only me that's going to suffer  :D .

the lap idea sounds good though :)
