The road ride sounds like a great idea, but we're all miles away from each other so we'd have to hook up something like 'meet in X city, cycle to X city' or whatever..

Would have to be a 100mile event or something, and try and raise some money for charity, always gives you a big push when your riding for charity!

Last three years i've said i was going to do the end to end ride.. never got round to it :(

Here's the pics of my new bike:

I also got that computer from halfords aswell. It's really good for £15 lol. Got some LED lights for £17 so now all i need is a helmet :(.

Elfie i'd snap up that FCR 1. It cost's at least double what mine cost rrp and your paying a quarter of what i paid. Pure bargain!

I'd like to do that tmf ride but i think everyone in this thread is like 200 miles away from me lol.

it is actually possible to ride on quite country roads you know :-

That may be the case where you live.... but not everyone lives there do they!
In my part of the world, road are not quiet. and I dont want to load the bike up on a car to get to those roads either. So 2 minutes on the road then I have hours of London's rivers to ride along the side of.. often not feeling like I am in London at all.

And I prefer the mud. I find it more challenging and also common sense tells (It doesn't speak to me often so when i does I listen) me that If I do my training miles in mud and dirt with MTB Tires when it comes to the L2B Bike run and I switch to road tires and tarmac I am presuming It will be less effort. Thats my plan anyway.

The road Team is only £700 now, I paid £900 for mine and THAT was cheap!! I have finished my Pro build today, its BEAUTIFUL. Only done about 3 miles on it tonight, but it FLIES!!! Dura ace allround, Cobra T2+ aerobars, ritchey pro wheels, carbon chainset!

Now im sure a proper fitness instructor type person will come along here and set the story right, but im pretty sure you'd be much better off getting a turbo trainer and doing the road miles for the training for the L2B run. Basically, when riding off road you use more slow twitch muscles rather then the fast twitch, and its the fast twitch that you use the most off on the road. I also find it really hard to bring your legs into a stable rythem off road due to the ever changing landscape, this becomes much easier on the road.

Obviously riding off road is better then not riding at all, but i would stay with a really high cadence.

Myself and my riding buddy will be well up for the 100mile TMF ride if it ever went ahead, it really would need some good planning and keeping it to full roadie friendly terrains.

I'll be coming with a huge amount of Torq stuff if i go! haha

I know, maby we should do somthing where people can join in half way, as that may put people off. i will do the full 100 but more people may get involved if there was a point they could join at say 50 miles. . . . . ?

what you referring to mate ? the L2B?

mmm, not sure about 100 miles, i was setting myself up for the 56 miles of the L2B :mmkay:

the most I've done since being back on the bike is 34 miles but that mainly down to the fact that I'm getting cold by then.

we shall have to see how things go, but i'm interested =]

this is the L2B home page...click

its on June 21st (fathers day) and you need to book a place, although registration doesn't open till 1st march.

I'd like to do this one, i guess its the familiarity of the L2B run.

having a bit of trouble with getting to the start, well actually its the wife getting from dropping me off at the start, out of London and down to Brighton but I'll work something out.

Well i guess if we arranged it and said we were going to start somewhere at 7am and the route is posted up from road to road, you could just tag yourself in at whatever point you like i guess?

Only reason i suggested the 100 miles is due to everyone having to travel, if it was just a 40 mile ride most people will prefer to just go out local and do that on there day off, rather then go half way up the country to do 40 miles.. i guess?

Don't get me wrong, 40 miles isn't the easiest thing in the world if your pushing it, but you should be able to do the 40 miles in 3 hours on a road bike (with it being reasonably flat i suppose)

Everyone has different cruise speeds aswell, some people will ride comfortably at 12mph, some at 18mph.. This is another thing we'd need to think about, as just like on the tour de france for example there will be breakaways, the people at the back will not be able to keep with the front runners, and the front runners wont feel comfortable spinning at the back runners pace.

EDIT: Another thing to think about is weight limits on bikes and safety rules? Personally i don't really want to ride with anyone on the road without a helmet on, simularly people who do alot of miles on there road bikes will often have there summer/race bike and there winter trainer.. Which one could we use?
