Best way to check is to have a look at the sun now through your welding mask and, if you go blind, it doesn't work.

Thats a good idea, if i wait till the day then i won't know if i've gone blind or if the eclipse is lasting longer than expected ;)

Do a comparison first, look directly at the sun around midday, I'd say for around 5 minutes, then look at it through a welding mask. You're guaranteed not to see the sun! <before I get reemed, this is a joke and on one should look directly at the sun in any way, shape, or form without the correct equipment>
