No mri yet, as all my gp keeps putting it down to ‘muscle weakness’, ‘my weight’ and being under 30 (only just) and to rest and take painkillers. But whenever my back does decide to play up, it’s a really sharp pain at the base of my spine on my left side with the muscle spasms if I move wrong. I even started swimming, even though it did mean having to learn with varying degreases of success. But even that isn’t pain free. As I tend to get a rather sharp pain in my back when either floating/swimming face down trying to keep my legs up and from the kicking itself. Which is rater off putting if I’m on my own and find myself out of my depth. But even that’s been fobbed off as ‘muscle weaknesses and ‘kicking too much’

Hmmm.. I'm no doctor but that sounds very like nerve pain to me, likely from something pressing on a nerve like a herniated disc. Poor you, sounds terrible. Push them for an mri, at least then you will know a bit more.
