I have a few major jobs to do on the mini this summer, when i have some time off.
a) fit my new pioneer head unit to replace the cheapo cd player that was put in to replace the standard tape player.
b ) rub down the rust and sort out the body work
c) sort out all the welding needed for the rusty areas e.g. A panel
d) sort out any other problems that would make it fail its MOT or make it unsafe
im planning to get these jobs done before the southern mini days show this august. (Hmmm) you may be thinking, (plenty of time) but unfortunately no, i have lots of A2/A Level work to do as well.

dont be tempted to "fix rust on "a" panel" just get new one fitted and dont do like that plonker on tv and fit half a panel (plonker is the nicest thing i could think of)right, the pioneer head unit is on hold the rust is now the priority.

what happens when you fitt half a panel ? thats right , the other half rusts through !

Firstly we tapped out the rust and cleared the holes.
We then sanded down the rust areas and then put Kurust over them, which made the rust turn blue showing that it was eating away the rust.
Then we got some mesh and carefully put it behind the holes.
We then filled in the holes with car body filler and waited for it to dry. Then sanded them down and put another layer on if it was needed - e.g. if some of the holes dipped in or showed through.
Then we sanded them down and began painting them. To finish off we used T - Cut polish to sharpen the colour and clean the edges.
While we had the T - Cut out we sorted out the boot, which now matches the colour of the car

i had them fitted but had to remove them because although the bulbs were red and are red when the tail lights are on they shine a reddy pink with the brake lights on.
ive decided to keep the standard lenses on to save having hassle from the police until i can find and buy some red bulbs that light up red.
I also had to take the front ones of temporarily as one of the bulbs has faded into a yellow colour.
Therefore my next plans are to find a suitable shop that supply unfadable red and orange bulbs that flash the right colour.
Anyone know of any places?
