I've recently bought a harness bar and some 3 point sparco harness' to fit into my mini along with some cobra clubman bucket seats. I've mounted the seats and the harness bar but the problem i have is, the sparco harness' seem too long between the bar and seat back even on the shortest setting.

Is there a way to shorten them that i have missed or do i need a specific harness to fit with a harness bar?
Maybe one for a roll cage although i can't see any listed?
How have other people mounted their harness' without using spreader plates or the original mountings?

Thanks

Can you take a picture of the belts as they are now? Sounds like something might be wrong here

Your seats sit a very long way back, can't see any way around your problem there to be honest but I'm probably missing something really obvious. Looks from the picture like your seats sit about 8 inches further back than mine.

Do you have anchor points for rear seat belts at the bottom of the back of the seat?

James: The harness' are still too long when the seat is all the way forward. The only way they are the right length is if all the rear straight piece is removed (folded over to test) so the mounting is at the end. If this makes sense

Elmo: No unfortunately not as my car is too old to have them :(. I've read on other topics that a harness bar should be used instead of the lower mountings but have yet to find a harness specifically for it or one that definately fits.

Just sat and stared at the pictures and can't see any solution, sorry I cant be of any more help. I can't see any harness being short enough either. Is there any way you can move the bar into the boot area and cut a couple of slots through? You would need to put a couple of grommets in to stop them rubbing but it should work.

Think i'll just have to get some of the spread plates and drill holes where the seat belts would normally mount where fitted. I don't really want the harness' to be shortened to fit with the bar as this could be unsafe. Defeats the point of having a bar if no harness' will fit with it though.

It might be worth having a look at what they fit to caterham/westfield as they have limited rear space, and im sure ive seen that the harnesses are different to normal

Most harnesses will have plenty of adjustment, like the ones pictured above. I have sold over 50 harness bars and never had this issue before (well not been told about it lol) A lot of cars have the harness bar right behind the seat, MX5, VX220 etc and they run super short harnesses. Will have a look at what is available and try and advise.

Just check with Sparco (or whoever supplied the belts). They do shorter versions of the rear belt because most single seat classes have very little room behind the seat.
