Hi i have my own fabrication business in addingham near ilkley(leeds) and me and a couple other lads have decided we would do a project for the business to use as a demo/show car.
We picked a shell up this week, which is going to get fully restored, de-seamed all round, de-bumpered, smooth boot, fibre glass front end, perspex windows, sprayed alpine white, candy red roll cage, ducati 916 engine with a couple of tweaks, carbon race pipes sticking thru boot, carbon bonnet, ducati 916 carbon mirrors, 7 inch wide carbon arches, gaz coilovers, poly bushed all round, the list is endless but will be worth it.

I will update the thread as i go but it will be a long thread as i have a business to run and cant always work on the shell but it will get done.

asume your running the engine across the car fitted to a diff unit off the front sprocket ?

I dont have a clue mate its my dad who is a whizz with bike engines i just do the welding and getting dirty part lol

well being deseamed as long as it doesnt rip itself to peices this will be a right hoot to drive! cant wait to see pictures of the build

Update,
Started the de-seaming progress this morning what a fun job but will be worth it lol

New hammer and dolly set.


Cutting and welding etc.

nice job so far, looks like a super neat job.

Personally id sort all the rot before the cosmetic de-seaming but whatever order works for you.

Also - I'd be thinking about deciding how the engine conversion is going to go together before buggering around with de-seaming too. As well as sorting the rot.

Well i think we all expected a comment like that from you sooner or later !!!

Well, maybe.

Good luck to the lad, but I fail to understand why people gush comments like they do, when those of us who've been modifiying and building cars for years shake their heads in dismay at the death of another salvageable shell.

I am not saying thats whats going to happen here of course, god forbid. It might all seem negative, but why WOULD you start deseaming when you don't know how the engine conversion is going to work, and you have a scuttle the state of that one!

If you're inexperienced and want to get advice be honest about it. Don't claim to be professional and then stick up photos of welding to that quality! Any professional faricator would wet himself laughing at the crow poo shown there.



Doing massive conversion projects like that are a bit like having children really. Everyone can do it, but those who do it well, and plan it properly, are in the minority. Anyway - hijack over.
