It's only a name but they might have trouble with this one as the Chinese are already making proper mokes.

I wish BMW would look at the history and make things accordingly. Like the clubman, they should have named it the traveller/countryman as its got a round front end. Same goes for the moke, it was an open topped off road variant. Surely it would have been better for them to put a Vitara esc fold down soft top to try to capture the spirit of the origional moke.

Can't think of anything that size in the 4x4 market other than the smaller suzuki's. If it drives well and performs off road well then maybe it will be a seller. Not too sure on the styling but until I see one in the fleash i'll hold my judgement

i dont think BMW's objective is to follow the history of the mini accurately and please the purists. its objective is to sell their cars to vein idiots (granted not always the case when looking at owners of the bini, but you cant deny a lot of them are complete idiots who only buy it because 'its cool because its a mini') by labelling them with the mini name.

without moving on to so called 'bini bashing' and having the internet police knock on my inbox, all i will say is its fugly!

Hmm..... already not a big fan of SUV's and the like, so not a fan of this... ticks all of the hateful boxes for me, and I can see it being "mum's" chelsea tractor in the future... (not very PC I confess, but I can't imagine there being so many male buyers, it's just too "Cutesy" when compared with the other cars in that genré)

Desperately hoping they don't make it.
It's silly, uneccessary, unfaithful and bound to be seriously overpriced and almost certainly will be terrible off road - perfect for the school run then!

EDIT

Love the way they mix all the names up for random models

So, presumably (and rather appropriately) they'll be calling this one the "Pick-up"

yeah, i cant imagine many of them actually being sold in the country side! this certainly isnt going to replace the defender 90 anytime soon as the farmers choice! i cant even see this making it down the easy green lanes!

what i want to know is how it handles, i cant see it handling anything like a mini or a moke!

I guess BMW choose "heritage" names that they can also defend as intellectual property. Countryman was used for the Montego Estate too, though there was also a Mayfair version of every Rover "Austin legacy" model at one time
