NEVER?!
A & A+ What are the differences?
I'm new to the Mini scence.
The A+ variants got some improvemnts over the old A series (often refered to as A- to distinguish them better) engines in the very early 80's. To distinguish them form the old, they were named 'A+'. Improvemnts include different bearings, fillet radii (grooves on the crank journals to prevent cracking) and stiffened/ribbed blocks. And gearboxes got bigger bearings, bigger tranfere gear bearings, differentials got improved planetary gear thrust washers to reduce wear, simplified dizzy attachement - that's about all I can think off now.
But it's still an engine design from the 50's...
A / A+ block front:
A+ / A block rear:
Rear shots show 1275cc A+ / A engine block.
The front view shows a 850cc & 998cc block - but same the changes applie. Don't have any better pictures at hand.
Dizzy attachement A+ / A:
And last but not least A+ idler bearing / A idler bearing:
And as a bonus A+ crank (w/ fillet radii) / A crank:
