Can anyone describe (in lamens terms) or get a picture of how the accelerator cable fits to the HS4 carb? I've fitted the bracket thing between the carb and manifold, and then the spring between this and the throttle spindle bit, but can't work out how the cable fixes to the carb. I have a bolt with two cable sized holes in it and a hexnut cast in the middle, and slightly domed nut, and then a rectangular washer with a large hole in one end and a small hole in the other, can't work out how these all go together though. I'll take some pictures of the pieces if anyone needs them?

Can anyone help me with the other end? My cable's a bit sticky and i think it's where the cable and sleeve go through the bulkhead?

The sleeve doesnt go through the bulk head, there is a little bit it sits in, so to put the cable in you need to feed the wire from inside the car, and feed the sleeve from inside the engine bay, as the wire has the barrel at the end that goes in the accelerator pedal. :erm:

Ahhh, thats awesome Ed4ran!! I owe ya!

Pooky: I'd try a new accelerator cable. Don't oil it. The oil will trap dirt and grit and it will eventually be worse!

This is on a new cable! The old one welded itself inside the sleeve because one of the stands nad come out all the way down the cable!

The new one jsut doesn't seem quite right... a bit graunchy (?!)

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, jammy!! :dontgetit:

I would say the most likely thing is that the outer isn't properly located into it's retainer. The brass ferrule on the end of the outer cable should snap into a short tube on the bulkhead, you can tell when it's in right as it can't move anywhere and feels very positive as it engages.
You don't actually need to take cables apart to fit them, the inner will go through the hole if you fit it from the right angle.

I think it did sort of locate into something but then it just comes out really easily, i've pushed as hard as i can to get it in!

I think its a bit better now as i've put a few cable ties along the sleeve (not too tight!) to try and hold the sleeve in place.

Then it's probably got too much slack in it. You should only have about 1/16th" of free play when fitting it into the carb linkage. With everything in place, loosen the clamp and pull on the end of the cable pulling it through the clamp (which is being held tight in the closed position by the throttle spring), then just relax it very slightly as you tighten up the clamp.

If it's not that then it could just be a dodgy cable I suppose.

What carb, what manifold, in what way is it not sitting right? How are you fitting it, do you have any pictures?

A bit more information would be pretty helpful!
