Hi, some people may recognise me from my other project thread"is this the rustiest mini in the world"

I have now realised that this mini has no chance of being ready anytime soon!! The show season is here and its getting on my tits going to the shows in my Vectra!!

So i have bought another one!!!

I got him out of the TMF classifieds from Derbymerc so if he's reading this, thanks!!

I have decided to name Him"Humphrey", no reason for it he just looked like a Humphrey.

He is a 1990 mainstream Cooper with 78k on the clock, he has been off the rd for about 5yrs now. I believe that he is a rare colour as well?

My plans for him are a general tidy up and mechanical overhaul.

- New Brakes all round
- New wings
- New Drivers Doorskin
- Good Service
- Poss a new passengers Doorskin
- A part respray
- New A panels

I am not sure about the front panel yet, I may try and save it yet!!

Here is when I got him home

Attached File  humpfrey_002.jpg   326.24K   41 downloads

I am aiming to have him roadworthy so I can take him to Malvern.

First jobs were to unsieze the clutch and free off the brakes.

This was done using a VERY big bar and loads of WD40.

The next was to remove the wings

Attached File  humpfrey_003.jpg   313.14K   33 downloads

Attached File  humpfrey_004.jpg   312.79K   30 downloads

The inner wings are pretty good with only a couple of small plates needed.

Looking around him, i need to do a bit of welding to to the boot and drivers side rear arch and a small plate to the drivers step.

His floors and sills seem good, generally he seems to be a bit neglected and run down.

I plan on getting stuck tommorow to watch this space!!

Which colour, the grey primer, rust or silver?!!

I'm going to register it on anoraks mainstream register, he should be able to give more info.

I'm going to keep it standard, but on a budget!!

Hi, haven't been posting but I have actually been working!!

Humphrey has been coming on in leaps and bounds and I am very happy with the way he is turning out.

I decided to replace the front panel after all, I repaired the old one but it just didn't look right and was a bodge really!!

Attached File  humpfrey_005.jpg   327.09K   30 downloads

It just didn't seem right

Next I had a bit of a poke around and found some rust

Attached File  humpfrey_007.jpg   324.03K   32 downloads

Whilst the wings were off :ermm:

I checked and replaced the ball joints

Replaced the split driveshaft boots

New discs and pads

New subframe rubbers

New rear wheel cylinders

New Rear shoes

Also replaced any suspect brake hoses

Attached File  humpfrey_006.jpg   324.75K   20 downloads

Attached File  humpfrey_012.jpg   311.43K   14 downloads

I then got the welder out and plated the floors

Attached File  humpfrey_011.jpg   334.82K   33 downloads

Attached File  humpfrey_013.jpg   326.74K   19 downloads

Now the fun started, I fitted the new front end - What pig of a job!!

I used cheapo panels and nothing fitted!!

I spent the best part of a day getting the gap somewhere near!!

Even though I say so myself, I am very happy with the results!!

Attached File  humpfrey_015.jpg   333.09K   25 downloads

Attached File  humpfrey_016.jpg   324.31K   24 downloads

I also reskined the drivers door and fitted that

Attached File  humpfrey_009.jpg   330.65K   16 downloads

Attached File  humpfrey_014.jpg   317.01K   19 downloads

The lock fell apart and I spent a happy hour trying to get it fixed, pig of a job!!

I also found myself a few more jobs as well:-

The passengers radius arm has some play in it that I can't grease out!!

The tie rods are bent

Handbrake quadrants are semi-siezed

I still have to get the indicators working and service the engine

I was planning to paint him today but just ran out of time.

Might take a day off this week to get him finished :dontgetit:

I'm gonna jinx myself here and say that he will(should) be ready for Malvern

Hi, hought I would give an update on Humphrey, haven't posted for a while and had a few ups and downs!!

First up on the positive side he is now Taxed and Mot'd :o

However he is still in bits in my garage, I have had several painting disasters to contend with.

First off I painted him using waterbased type paint, this turned out ok, however the colour match was C**p!!

So I decided to give him full repaint, then the problems really started.

I have nothing put trouble with paint reacting and it is starting to get on my tits :P

Yesterday I thought I had cracked it, went to garage today and found this .....

Grr I hate paint, got to leave it fully dry and I'm going to paint the car with a sealing layer before trying again.

Its not all bad though.

Got a nice delivery from Mini spares, treated him to an RC40 and some new cones(note sock)

Attached File  humphrey_002.JPG   328.31K   30 downloads

Spent today fixing toilet and then fitted the cone, front ends a bit high but should settle(I hope)

Old ones were knacked

Attached File  humphrey_001.JPG   336.98K   22 downloads

Meanwhile poor old Spudnik is left outside, should have been able to crack on with him. Doh!!!!

Attached File  humphrey_006.JPG   343.45K   24 downloads

Gonna spray him with Sealer tommorrow and then fit the RC40

Hopefully by the afternoon or Sat he will be ready for paint again(!!)

WOOOO HOOOOOOOO, he's finished!!!

(well nearly!!!)

He's all painted and I even treated him to a nice new set of revo alloys along with an RC40 exhaust.

Even if i say so myself, he looks pretty spanking!!!

I'm pretty happy with the finish and he just needs a quick flat off and polish, and theres a couple of runs to deal with but not much.

I've also fitted a new pair of front cones and these need to settle, however he drives much better.

Ok then here he is!!!!

I think he looks pretty damm good and am looking forward giving him a damm good thrashing!!

Only prob is, he looks so good Mrs Shifty keeps eyeing him up............Hmmmm

Anyway thats that one done, better get on with Spudnik!!

Thanks for all you comments and encouragement.
