Been playing with MDF... What do you think?

I will hopefully be swapping the speedo dial to a black one and then fitting some indicator tell tales and some smoked perspex, as soon as I figure out some mountings it should all be covered in vinyl!

That's a cool idea for the 3 aux gauges, I'd suggest trimming the right mounting "tube" down a bit that way it fits the profile better.
I might have confused myself lol. Hope it makes sense.

Cheers

Not a big fan of acoustic carpet, for covering I am aiming to do the main dash in blue vinyl and the "pod" in black vinyl. Played with the "mounting tubes" (they are actually suppose to be peaks to stop glare) so now they face me when I am in the car... Decided on a triangle as I didn't feel three in a row went well!

Anyone good with vinyl? Tempted to try and round the corners off on the pod completely but not sure how I would cover it, think I will just end up smoothing them to take the edge off.

Hopefully this will be greeting me every time I get in my mini soon, but with a little bit more colour!

Been playing again today! Bought a 12V socket, got it home, didn't have the right sized hole making device, had to next door to where I got the socket from to get a drill bit to make the hole... Duh! Added holes for my indicator LED's in the pod, but you can't see them on any of these pics...

Managed to cover everything in vinyl, back panel was easy, pod was interesting... Ended up getting a sewing machine out to make a tight ish tube, then adding the front corners to it, once I stapled the flappy bits it turned out well! Just need to get some perspex and make the holes in the backing felt, then the fun of wiring it all up

Done the next bit, just need to find some smoked perspex, got a supplier in mind but I probably won't be able to get it until Thursday at the earliest

That looks really really good!

If I had 2/3 clock setup on mine instead of the centre binnacle I'd be tempted to do the same, especially with those colours.

A glovebox would look good, it would also give you easy access to the fixings, that's assuming you're going to use the usual "wood block with bolts sticking out of the back pushed through a metal dash-rail-binding bracket" fixings.

Thought about it, I wouldn't use it to be honest. Think I may end up attaching my fire extinguisher just above the dash rail and then maybe have Austin Mini above it using the script boot badges, shall try and do a photoshop to give you an idea...

I bought it from ebay, got 2 meters of each! Was almost a year ago now but thanks to gmail I still have the details, the seller is atmlabel and it was upholstery vinyl leatherette, 140cm wide in royal blue and black. They still sell it too

Decided against using any foam, as long as your MDF isn't battered it gives a good finish with out bulging around the dials...

Yeah its the usual bolts and wood trick, but I am using wood "dash-rail-binging bracket" as I couldn't find any metal... The fixings are surprising easy to get to even without a glovebox, you just need to lie upside down on your seats
