Hi everyone!

I've just spent what could be called an interesting weekend changing the clutch on a 1275 S converted 2000 MPi Mini. I've never seen access so appalling!

Anyway, on saturday we were cooking with gas, had everything off by about 4 pm (started at 1), with the flywheel lying on the floor ready to take the replacement friction lining. We checked it was the same, put it into the flywheel and put the car back together. Woohoo we thought, that was easy, sorted! Not so, the clutch promptly decided to start slipping at anything above about 2000 revs, which was when the cam kicked in.

On sunday (because by the time we'd got it back together it was too late to do anything else) we adjusted the throw out stop to the correct distance, checked the arm was right into the slave cylinder, bled the system through, even stripped it right back down and checked we'd done it right and put it back together, but still no joy! Took it for a 20 mile test drive, it still slipped like a bugger.

It seems to me that the clutch isn't engaging properly, and might possibly be a fault with the pressure plate springs, or maybe the hydraulics. I'm stumped as to exactly what though, so thought someone may be able to help? :erm:

The spec is: 1293cc, lightened and balanced flywheel, 276 cam, standard box, standard clutch plate, MPi, standard everything else

thanks loads in advance!

Tom (and tony the owner who should be signed up to this forum soon)

How does the ECU affect the clutch?

I know you probably know this, but the verto clutch friction plate has to go on the right way round or it won't engage properly.
Could be that, probably not though.

it doesn't affect the clutch, apart from you have to take it out every time you even want to look at your bell housing...never mind adjust the bugger. i think the point he was making is that cars wih ecu's are more trouble than they are worth sort of thing. The whole reason i got back into minis is the "simplicity :D " of the engine and components
