Well its been a while coming but worth the wait

This is the Specialist Components fast road demo engine -as per the build guide

spec 1293cc/21253 pistons, 10:1 cr
BMW K100 8v head - NO PORTING!
std BMW cams
std 33mm throttle bodies
SC full conversion kit
SC ecu and loom
MED crank + centre strap
MED flywheel assy
Orange diaphragm/AP plate
helical box/drops
4 pin diff
3.44 diff

- as you can see a fast road spec engine

Now onto the curves - this is having your cake and eating it - the torque from 1000rpm is stupendous (no need for a plenum methinks!) all the way to 7500rpm+ the torque curve is flat. This was paramount of my idea of a fast road engine - driveability does not suffer but it still revs like a banshee to 7500 when required making it truly versatile. You will not get this power curve from a 5 port with similar ponies. It starts on the button, idles at 900rpm - will pass all current mot emmisions regs and your granny could drive it. On the road it is pure grunt any revs, any gear, flat or hilly!, it feels like a 1.6l not a 1293. If you're at Brigthon please fell free pop over for a look at the car and a chat.

Oh yes it sounds nothing short of awesome as well

cheers

John

How tight are the throttle bodies up against the front? would it fit in a standard round nose?

Hmm... I got a spare 1330cc A-series engine in my garage... I think I now have a plan what to do with that :w00t:

Hi - yes the throttle bodies will fit under a round nose - pic of my gold 16v beastie! (the foam filters are quite long on this - the ram pipes actually sit way back from the slam panel) - the holes are there for max airflow as the car is used for very fast use rather than stealthy like the clubby!

closed bonnet pic as well - its only raised at the rear to let the hot air from my banana exhaust out - the engine will fit under a std bonnet line.

Saw this at bingly and it looks stupendous! I do love it, i like the fact that it looks like it was an original engine too, it don't look like a 'conversion' as such - if you get what i mean. For the price as well its an absolute bargain. Its annoying really, if i wasn't so stubbourn about having BMW parts on my car i'd ave one on the 1071. I'd imagine the 16v DOHC would suit it perfectly, adding torque and making the engine a bit more stable as the revs build. But i just can't bring myself to put a BMW head on a genuine 1071 's' motor.

thanks for the comments guys - I can see your point of view on the 1071 as well - far better drop the head onto a 1275 block and keep the 1071 original!

cheers

JohnK - Do you also have RR figures and engine specs for that 16V conversion that you have made? :) I'd be interested to compare those to 8V conversion (as the power hunger won't stop at 100hp)... :w00t:

Ps. the build manual was interesting to read. I'll have more questions for you about it if and once I get this conversion started...
