I have just been to look at the Mini you can see in the photo's, can anyone tell from the photo's if it is a 1300 engine? I have seen some insurance details that say it's had a 1310, but they are over 10 years old so it could have been cahnged since then. It would also be helpful if I could get an idea of what it is worth, it has had a new front end put on badly and has over sills, guy is looking for £500 and he is a dad of a friend so I do not want to offer say £350 and upset him, but then I do not want to pay over the odds as it will be a doner car if I buy it. The other option being I buy it rip the engine out (if it's a 1310) and sell the rest on.
your advise will be much appriciated

Certaily has a 1275 head, as for it being a 1310, the only way to check would be to take the head off... the pistons should be marked +.040

If you only want the engine, then you need to weigh up the resale cost of the parts, which will not be a vast amount.. If the front end needs to be taken off and rebuilt then personally, I think 350's too much..

Does the engine run ?

*edit*

Ohh... just seen the bodge job on the scuttle... ;) that means the fitch panels are also rotted or bodged, which to be honest is a pain... and can spell the demise of the shell completely...

I would say to him that all you are interested in is the engine, and if it can be seen running and verified as a 1310, then the offer should be based on the engine only, the rest of the car come free with it..

This Mini is now a new member of my family for the grand sum of £275 and I got it running before I bought it :D it seems a shame that I bought it to steal the engine and a few other bits for my project but it means that I will be able to get my project done quicker now that I have most of the bits I need.
I will be ditching what is left of the shell in a month or two so if anyone is interested let me know, otherwise it will go to the local scrappy.
