I'm trying to decide if it might be worth the work?

I would not recommend doing it, unless you are highly skilled yourself or rich

Only way I would do it would to buy a fibreglass shell that is already de seamed :cheese:

I am just de seaming my mini, i cant see why it should weaken the shell as the panels are welded together anyway whether it is seam welded or spot welded. As long as the welding is good you are still joining two panels you are not creating an extra joint

thats why rally car shells are seam welded
minis arent like normal cars they dont have chasiss
all modern cars have shells with everything hanging of them just like a mini
they don't have a seperate chasis
as normaly you have a spot weld every few inches when deseamed you have a continuse welded panel
if you do it properly you only need a layer of filler 1/2 inch wide the length of the seam a few mm thick so will no crack
lead loading is hard to do and messy
i have some photos of my deseamed clubman some where if i can find them will scan and post them

FULL deseam roof slant

part deseam roof chop AND body chop

part deseam

no deseam!

IMHO i love the body chopped, and roof chopped mini, it isn't a minus either, spoken to the bloke that owns it a year or so ago!!
i'm not too keen on the full deseam tho, looks a bit too bubbley! looks better without the chrome bumper

I guess the seams over the doors might come in handy in the rain.
I don't really mind the seamed or de-seamed look.
Just trying to decide what I want.
The roof chop does look cool, but a 6'5" tall, I need all the room I can get.
