We're currently rebuilding a 1986 Mini City E that was originally painted in Champagne Beige (LMK), I think with a brown interior. Unfortunately some years ago it was repainted black/white and the interior was swapped for a Mini Mayfair set in a light grey-blue, all now in pretty dire condition. When this was done it also appears the dash top and bottom rail were painted black using some vinyl paint, all done quite roughly. As far as I can tell the only remnants of the original interior are a brown passenger seat belt and the rear parcel shelf in a reddish brown!

Is there any information available about what colour combinations the interior will have originally been? I think the City E had houndstooth fabric on the seats in '86 (I may go with something different for the seats anyway) but I'd like to aim to get the rest of the trim returned to more original. The carpet is currently black/mould but I'm suspicious this would have been brown originally as well?

Stu.

.... I think the City E had houndstooth fabric on the seats in '86...

By 1986 it was Sawtooth fabric - exactly like the houndstooth just a bigger pattern.

Sawtooth Seats - http://www.roblightb...314027_orig.jpg (earlier City E had 2 spoke steering wheels)

Houndstooth - https://www.classicc...tin/mini/314131

I think the City E interior came in a very limited number of colours ( Prussian Blue or Chocolate trim?).

1986 City E:  you should find the trim code on your VIN is CNC ....in which case everything is Poo Brown :X

I did find a 1987 City E Auto with beige instead of brown (bit odd as i can't find this option listed anywhere).

Brilliant info :)

Although a few years ago everyone wanted everything black I think a return to brown now would be worth pursuing, although the sawtooth fabric might well be a stretch too far. When I get to that stage with the rebuild I'll probably have a chat with JCS about the options to re-trim the Mayfair seats and probably lose the headrests ... I'm not sure they're very effective anyway!
