1981 Mini HL Auto. Only covered 21,000 miles from new! With a long MOT.

In superb original condition, has had no welding or new panels in it's life. The bodywork is all in great original condition.

Excellent interior also totally original.

Has just been recommissioned following a few years off the road. Has had new front suspension cones, engine mounts, new water pump, thermostat, bypass hose, brake cylinders, hoses etc, fully serviced.

Runs and drives very well indeed as you would expect with such low mileage

Extensive paperwork and old MOT's, tax discs etc.

Mini's in this sort of original un-touched condition don't come around very often!

£3995.

Nr Ashford, Kent.

01233 750508 / 07790912607.

....& it's still got the original Black HL bumpers (based on the Elf/Hornet bumpers & not on the clubman bumpers as many people believe).

I'd kill for a pair of those in good nick!

The HL mini used the Clubman rear bumpers front and rear, these were first used on the Mini 1100 special in chrome, by 1980 the elf and hornet pressings would be long gone, however with the Clubman just out of production made sense to use these bumpers and painted black cheaper than chrome to keep the accountants happy.

I've looked at a lot more HL Minis & they all have the (3 angle) clubby bumpers.

My 1981 HL had 2 angle bumpers & they look far better, gave the car a really mean look - found a reference once to the HL being fitted with the painted Elf/Hornet front bumper (can't find the reference now i want it!).

Always happy to learn something new about the Mini, if you find the source please post, nice cars in standard spec always look so neat stand out a mile. I hope whoever buys it keeps it standard.

.... the Clubman just out of production made sense to use these bumpers and painted black cheaper than chrome to keep the accountants happy.

(From what i've read chrome bumpers are generally thinner than painted steel bumpers so they would have been made separately).

A lot of parts were made by sub-contractors -the Elf/Hornet bumpers would probably have been made by Wilmot & Beedon (they were still manufacturing bumpers when the HL was made).

In the early 80's a lot of sub-contractors were undergoing restructuring/ buy outs/ closures -'in 1981 BL had to find alternate suppliers of front subframes and wheels for the Mini when Rubery Owen closed their Darlaston factory'.... so it's possible that whereas most HLs were fitted with Clubman bumpers & due to lack of availability some were fitted with an 'alternative' bumper.

To date i've only ever seen about two sets of non-clubman (2 angle) HL black bumpers for sale on Ebay.
