Hi all. Please excuse my barging in on you with a bone question first off. I have a dilemma I seek advice on. I have my S for sale and it seems it's going to a dealer in London who has somewhat squeezed the price down from what I was asking. Sadly I don't really know the value of such a pristine mk3 s as they are so rare. Any advice would be great. Agreed price is 29k

Thought please?

I agree with this guy. Cash it in get something else 29k is a heck of a lot of money. Especially given the current climate. You can always re invest into something else.

I'd say hold out for your asking price, it's up to the dealer to turn a profit, not up to you to subsidise it by taking nearly 20% less ... in my humble opinion of course :)

There is always a difference between asking price and what someone is prepared to pay. The third and fourth factors are what the car is seen as being worth by the current owner and what the appreciation of value will be. maybe a further factor is how badly the current owner needs the money!

A fully rally prepared 1071 'S' with UK history, FIA Group 2 papers, totally immaculate and ready to go sold at auction in the USA for $34,000 last week. And that is an ultra-rare 1071, so with is pedigree and results it should have been well over that figure.

It is always what someone is prepared to pay and if an owner feels it is worth more then he/she should go with their gut feeling and hang on for what they want. There will be someone who will pay the right price for such a superb car.

29K is good money for a MK3, in fact I'd say it's exceptional, if you want to get out of the car by selling to a trader you have to expect them to make a profit, that's what they are in business to do, he will be taking all the risk and at the price in the Ad I suspect he will have it for a fair while waiting for someone to part with that kind of money for it. It's no good saying keep it, it will be worth more in X number of years, it might, or it might not, you have to do what's right in the circumstances you are in now.

Thanks so much! I think I'll go with it, there are always some others to look out for in the USA and Canada, as pointed out by Cooperman, besides I personally prefer other Mini's rather than MK3's, no matter how immaculate.

Yes it's a bit heartbreaking, but sadly I don't have a Chelsea garage with rich trendies walking by. The fact is though that it's hard to value as there are not many to compare to, it could be worth 29, could be more?

It could be worth more or it could be worth less.
The Mk.3 S does seem to be worth less than the Mk1 and 2 cars. Maybe they are more iconic with the sliding windows and externalet hinges.
Personally I think £29k is not a bad price for a mint condition Mk3, but values will increase as they will for all original condition classics.
For £29k there are other classics which have more potential for increasing value at present. A mid-70's Porsche 911 for example.
