Fantastic day at Goodwood yesterday. Slightly disappointed that the Vulcan display was cancelled due to a technical issue but this was a minor hiccup on a great day

These are the minis that I saw

This year they paid a special tribute to Bruce McLaren. When they were developing their CanAm and F1 race cars they needed to know how to setup up the wings to generate the correct levels of downforce. To do this they strapped a wing onto a mini van and drove around the track whilst someone in the back would adjust the wing and take measurement readings

Weren't Plato and James Martin doing some kind of endurance race in his Cooper S or was it the hill climb?

Plato and Karun Chandok were driving the swiftune minis. Also out there was Sam Turdoff, Matt Neal, Andrew Jordan and Gordon "Flash" Shedden.
Shedden and Jordan had a fantastic battle for the win. Shedden was in the Lotus Cortina.

How cool would it be as mini van owner to look at the PIC above and think to yourself "that reg number looks familiar" .......

Alas the DVLA number checker doesn't seem to pick it up, so its probably long gone unless it never got a V5 & is covered in dust somewhere waiting to be found in a shed/barn/hedge bottom.

Probably got sold on to a mechanic & ragged into the ground.

Watched the St Mary's trophy on Motors TV, it was epic, so much (100x) better than todays BTCC or F1 where I can't tell one car from another.

As we didn't finish the van till early on Thursday morning, the number plates were the last thing to worry about.

It's also very difficult (illegal actually) to get real plates made up without a V5C, to it stayed on its real plates for the weekend.

The wing is the actual one used in '68 for testing, and Gordon Coppuck was like a kid with the keys to a sweet shop when he was allowed to ride in the back for the parade.
Must be about the only person ever to ride around the circuit in the back of a van with no seat or seatbelt - just like when he did it for real :)
