I'm so excited, this is pretty much how I look after talking to the Vauxhall expert I bought the engine off...
Apparently, it's NOT a C20XE, it's a 20XE. The C stands for catalytic converter and they came about after this. The X means it's 16V and I think the E is what the designers were taking when they designed the engines.
So this one was rolling roaded around a year ago and showed 161bhp. I always thought red tops were bang on 150bhp? Apparently not. It's apparently not too uncommon for them to be 160+

Got a quote for insurance today. With this engine fitted, roll cage, buckets, harnesses, alloys....All of the mods listed that I've discussed:
£168
Ju, I want to keep it the original colour. It's a very rare colour for a Mk1 Astra (Bright Copper Metallic) and, apart from the cage fitment, the shell will be kept as standard as possible so it can be restored to standard in the future with relative ease.

I've been reading up on the engine tuning options again. I think I'm set on the idea of decent management, Jenvey SF bodies, ARP rod bolts and head bolts, maybe a mild pair of cams if I can find ones that don't require piston mods and solid lifters...
Anyway, looking on the SBD site, 210bhp is achievable with no head/bottom end mods and standard cams, just with the bodies, management and decent exhaust manifold/system. So I reckon that'll be more than enough for me.

Oooh nice. Was it on Chevette running gear?

Don't forget It's an old car and very light. I'm considering an engine conversion for mine at some point, if I don't sell it.

Getting a set of 48mm tapered ITBS, trumpets, manifold, fuel rail, ITG backplate and filter. Just need to specify a set of injectors and buy them, and maybe get a more standard manifold as this one is hugely ported (came off a car running 270bhp NA).

900kg is pretty light, my Datsun is just under 1400kg.
I think unpainted cam cover :)
