Refusing To Tick Over? Just Cuts Out.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why my engine won't tick over?
I first thought maybe it was due to getting colder, if that would make a difference at all.
But I went to work in it today to take it out for a drive, and I did about 8 miles, so it was nice and warm, got to a massive set of traffic lights, handbrake on, in neutral, and the engine ticked over for a couple of minutes then cut out, it started to struggle and died.
Like it was being choked almost.
If I keep some revs on its fine, but it means whenever im stopped I have to press the accelerator, otherwise the engine just cuts out.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I'm taking the block out next week for a subframe change so then would be a good time to sort it.
Thanks in advance.

Was the stage 1 put in recently? or have you done anything recent to it?
When was it last serviced?
Was it running fine up until that point?
Anything easily noticeable in the engine bay? Loose vacuum pipe etc

Have you adjusted the tick over screw on the carb?
Mine did the same, done a twist on the screw and adjusted the tick over revs.
You can have it low and splutter or wide open, personal choice :)

hmmm, i remember i twisted a bolt on the underside of the carb i thought it was to stop it running so rich?
because my spark plugs were getting very black and soot covered, so i turned it to try and prevent that. I thought thats what it did anyway, but it could be that ive just made it not tick over?

If you adjust 2 & 3 screws you should be able to fix the idle revs mate.
