I thought those on here might be interested in then results for the Minis 'under the hammer' today:
1994 Rover Mini Sprite, 64k miles, nice overall standard condition: £2100
1988 'Mary Quant Designer 998, 12450 miles, very clean and looking like new: £6000
1979 Clubman, 60000 miles, Quite nice and very original: £3800
1967 Morris Cooper 'S' Mk.1. Needing some restoration inc. new sills £13500
1965 Austin Countryman 850 'Woodie' Beautiful restoration to completely standard £10400 (worth a lot more I thought)
1990 Mini Mayfair 1293. heavily modified and to me very 'chav' £6900 (very over-priced I think)
1968 Morris Mini 998 Mk.2. Completely standard and immaculate £6600
1965 Cooper 'S', a very accurate 1965 Monte Carlo replica, in superb condition £32500 bid, not accepted by vendor
1960 Morris Mini Mk.1 850, absolutely superb and very original £8300
5% buyers premium should be added to the final bid prices.
The 'works replica' was being sold by a friend and we discussed whether this was thenbest auction for this car. I'm sure it would make a lot more at Silverstone or Goodwood as the bidders would appreciate the accuracy of the restoration and the relevance of the number, AJB4B (the '65 Monte winner was AJB44B). A figure of £45000 would be more appropriate IMHO.
There were a lot of non-Mini bargains, like the immaculate 1993 4.0 Jag XJS which sold at £3700 + 5%. That's a lot of beautiful car for very little money. Other good deals were a 1975 BMW 2002 which went for only £5400, a very clean 1989 BMW 316i with 105000 miles on for £700 + 5%, an absolutely superb VW1303 Beetle for £2750 and a 1981 Daimler Sovereign VDP with a warranted 48,900 miles and in unmarked condition for only £2100 + 5%. What great classics they are and all very useable.
The actor Philip Glenister was there and he drove the Audi Quattro in which went for a reasonable price.
I hope these are interesting to you all.
