My parents bought this car in 2004 from the original owner who purchased it new in 1968. They've decided after 9 years of ownership they weren't using it as they now have a new convertible for the summer and the Mini wasn't doing much mileage, only covering less than 2000 miles during their ownership.

They offered it to me because otherwise it would have been sold on to someone else so now the Mini has it's third owner in 45 years.

So, the Mini is a 1968 MKII 1000cc Super Deluxe in Beige. Not sure which beige it is though - hopefully someone can help me out. My mum thought it was Sahara Beige but that doesn't appear to be an Austin colour. I thought it was El Paso beige, but I don't know for sure.

It has covered 51,200 miles now and that is the original mileage. The lady who owned the car previously used it as her general car but it was always garaged which appears to have helped the car survive largely original.

My parents had the sills repaired but unfortunately the garage put over sills on so they will need attention in the future. The floor pans in the front have also been replaced as have both front wings, however apart from that it is largely original.

I plan to keep it completely original with no modifications apart from perhaps some wheels, which will be slightly wider cooper 10" steel wheels. Otherwise, there is a lot of stuff to renew but I plan to keep it as a 1968 spec super deluxe.

Much of the brightwork will need replacing as some has started to rust and the car was resprayed in the past and this has not been the best of jobs and there is slight overspray on the brightwork and seals around the windows and light seals etc. it is a shame really because the actual bodywork and paint job is pretty good, apart from the poor masking.

All of the seals need replacing as many have perished and many of the rubbers to the suspension and steering need changing.

I plan to cary out restoration without taking it off the road for too long, but this won't start for some time as I currently do not have anywhere dry to store the car and have another project taking priority at the moment (as you can probably see from the photos...) so it is staying in my parents garage until our garage has been built.

I want to strip it all down and have it resprayed the same colour, perhaps with a white roof, and restore the interior seats and carpets.

Anyway, enough talk. Here is Old Beige:

Thanks everyone. Just been for a nice little drive in the mini this morning again and it is such a fun little car. Once I get going I'll do a progress thread to document the restoration.

Hi, I've just seen the pictures of your mini.

Wow, I've been restoring one exactly the same as yours for over a year now. The colour is as you thought El Paso Beige and the interior is Satin Beige. Mine was a complete wreck and your pictures are the best I've seen as a reference.

Have a look at my build thread if you like. Its called 1968 mkii project, although I now know its actually a 1967 as I bought a heritage certificate from Gaydon BMH making it a very early mkII.

Thanks a lot for posting the pics.

Ollie

Hi

I am currently working on a TV show and we are looking for a mini just like the one pictured to film with in a few weeks time. I was wondering if you could get in touch so we can discuss? I am contactable at [email protected] or 02071574243.

Thanks,

Liam
