Thought I'd be cheecky and see if anyone wanted to share pics of their de-seamed minis? Just love the look of 'em. I'm normally against most body-related mods on minis but love to see a good de-seamed one, guess it's the kind of retro quirckyness, and the amount of work it takes for something only a few will notice?!

apologies for poor pic's - when I made the Mini's , I never thought to take photo's

they are scans from 90's pic's I found in a draw

I do regret selling them

I'm making a de-seamed convertible at the moment

the front wings are overlapped , then seam welded both sides , with bracer plate

the rear 1/4 has the seam cleaned then hammered flat , and the exposed edge seam welded

stronger than the original join

I love the clean look

All the paperwork seemed to be present, what, specifically, are you refering to?

LOL! Have a look on my build thread what a rough job of deseaming is like (by that I mean what it was like when I got her, not what my repairs are like!) My clubby had odd tacks of birdpoop welding here and there holding it all together and then buried in filler, with great chunks falling off due to rust underneath. It also came with an MOT. Think I'll be going back to the same testing station for my MOT when I finally finish her so hopefully there should be no problems!

Here's mine :) It's a fibreglass shell like the Minus but called an FRA. Got lots of pics if you wanted more :)

yeah, don't think it has one. Hey ho i'm still in love, and if worst comes to worst I'll sort it out anyway.
loving the fiberglass ones does that FRA have the same wheelbase as a normal mini?

have you looked into the costs involved and the extra work needed to pass the test ?

i think the test it's self is £500 and there is a guide in the Z cars section to what other mods are needed to pass

Is deseaming a surefire fail in any MOT station or is it a case of who does the test and what kind of mood they're in on the day? Is it how the tester interprets the guidlines and decides if something is ok or not or is everything black and white as far as whats acceptable and whats not? Seems like it's a bit of a Lottery! My mini was deseamed when I bought it and it was quite roughly done. I've since cut out everything and replaced where the seams were with a strip of new metal and seam welded it in. The new front wings and a-panels are also seam welded so it's a good deal stronger than before, so if she could pass an MOT before then she should sail through once I'm finished her (!), right? I bloody hope so!

Sorry to say I hate de-seamed Mini's, they should all be put in a crusher. ;D
