been trying to fit some deluxe wheel arch trim today but it seems to want kink when going round the arches, ive put it in boiling hot water to help it bend easier, but the trim seems to have been rolled the opposite way its meant to go round the wheel arch (the clear side is facing outwards), so just getting it straight is hard work. is this the case with all deluxe trim or have i possibly got some from an iffy batch? it took me ages to fit and heres how it looks on the car: not good :S

Hi,

This type of trim is very difficult to fit. We tried this on my Mini on a hot June day a few years back and even then it was a nightmare!
When I had another go I heated the trim by leaving it in front of a calor gas heater until it felt quite hot to touch.
I also used a hot air gun during application to keep the trim as flexible as possible, this makes it a lot easier to fit and less likely to kink, especially where the bottom of the wheel arches join the sill.
As it cools it then grips to the lip of the body.
Hope this helps!
Steve.

It's best to heat it and straighten it out, then let it cool and re-heat it before fitting. Trying to bend it in the opposite direction to which its rolled in one go is very difficult without kinking it.

thanks for that guys will buy some more and have another go at fitting it, sounds like it will take a while and alot of heat but i think the end results will be worth it, looks much better than the black sill trim i had on it before!

Hi Leekr,

Sorry not to reply for giving an answer to your question, I'm searching for the same arches as you've got on your car (not too wide and going down the bumper at the back).

Can you (or anyone else) tell me where I can find those items.

Thank you in advance

Where did you get the arch trim from? I've fitted the deluxe trim from Mini Spares to 4 cars this year and I'm sure none of it has come rolled with the clear portion facing outwards.

All I I do is pour about 4 litres of boiling water into a bucket with the trim sat in the bottom (one side at a time) and then slowly work it on starting from the back and working forwards. Some times I find it's necessary to get a cup and pour some more water over to soften the trim more for the bends at the A-panel and bottom on the quarters but I've never had a kink.

Looks like done in a rush and putting too much force or the trim was not warm enough. And FG arches dont help the fitment either.

Honestly i'd fit the normal trim over these arches, and the deluxe on archless cars.

Its a long and patience requiring job i know..but take plenty of time and heat.

Thank you Coxie, your link seems to be the right one.

Huddersfield answer to my questions really quickly and confirm that those rear arches are continuing under the bumper lip.

It seems like I've just found a christmas gift for my mini...
