Its called a clip nut and i cannot remember what size it supposed to be. It will either be 1/4" or 5/16"ths but i have a feeling its a 1/4".

They do give you some room to manoeuvre when fitting the tank. I did make my bracket (i pattern copied it off the original) and seam welded it on.

Here you go

hey guys and girls I’ve got exactly the same issue here,

Somehow we're not able to see the picture that R1minimagic posted, could someone post a picture of where the mounting point is supposed to be relative to where the tank sits?

I'll probably get the proper bracket from somerfords if they still do them, it doesn't seem worth the hassle of making one when you can get one for less than a tenner

thanks chris

hi sonnik thats perfect thanks for doing that it's much apprieciated

i got an idea now where the anchor should sit, looks like the lip of the tank butts up against the upright of the bracket and offers some oppostion to the strap

When I did mine I found it wasn't exactly critical where it goes, aslong as the tank strap and bolt can fit squarly without being twisted.

Is there anything holding the tank in at the top? Or is it just the strap pulling the tank into the corner of the shell?

What would be really good on this feed is for a picture of the tank fitted from the outside above with the boot seal removed so you can see the seam of the tanks alignment with the car and also with the fixed bottom bracket in view. If I remember correctly its sort of in on the wonk where the top part of the seam of the tank is in further than the bottom part of the seam? I may have had a wonky mini though ;-)

I searched for quite a while for shots of people's striped out boots but all the photos you find are taken from low down so you cannot see the lower bracket.

That's a long ramble hope it makes sense.

Thanks for the other pictures they are a great help too.

Is there anything under the tank for it to sit on? I pulled mine apart for respray and I am meticulas about keeping parts altogether. But when it came to refitting the tank it appears there's nothing. I have the rubber ring for filler and strap insulation but that's it. is there anything that goes against the bracket near the top strap bolt? How about the lower edge, it seems to just sit on floor.

On the early cars there is a rail but on the later ones nothing.

This is from the somerfordminis website.

To save making a new topic for basically the same thing, does this measurement look right for the location of the bracket?
