Rev Counter ?

Can you put a rev counter on a car that doesn't already have one ?

yes you have to wire it on the coil.

Dependant upon the age of the car, the wiring may already be there in the existing loom & just needs connecting to the new rev counter. Later two clock instrument dashes had the rev counter wiring in the loom as standard. See This Thread - Click Here

Yes, an easy job >_<

Put mine in a pod and mounted it behind the steering wheel. Have you got a central speedo or a twin behind the wheel type?

Bit of a hijack here but can you fit any after market rev counters to these connectors or does it have to be the standard one from the 3 clock setup?

I doubt I have the existing wires as I have a 1979 with a centre clock, but I'm putting in one of the fiberglass minisave style dashboards in, so I would like to put a rev counter in. So I just have to wire it up to the ignition coil and that should be fine ?

Diagram is for a TIM 52mm rev counter fitted to my VW van, not the old Smiths one in the picture I posted. Most modern rev counters will be wired in a similar way to the diagram.
