if its what i think it is, i.e a chip u put into your electrics, it tricks the ECU into thinking that the air temperature entering the engine is cooler, making the ECU think it needs more fuel to match the more condensed air!

Don't bother, Does more harm than good.
Put the money towards something useful like a Good service or a rolling road set-up. Or sweets.

The Mems system is another one of Rover's excellent ideas that makes you wonder how they were ever allowed to disappear down the pan. A bit like the gov't using Nissan's Sunderland Battery plant & 300 new jobs to talk of putting the UK in the vanguard of new vehicle technology when they've just buried LDV, and at least twice as many jobs, who were due to launch the first production electric van this year
Back to the topic...
Mems, very clever, constantly assesses and adjusts the engine tune to keep it optimum. (compensates for dirty air filters, worn engines with less compression etc). If you improve your engine, mems will make the most of your mods (up to a point, but still within what's practical and will pass an MoT emissions test).
If you tried to change the parameters with a superchip it would try and compensate for that too.

Courtesy of Sprockets info.......
The Superchips Icon will only alter the ignition advance. Im not sure if the newer versions are a mapable system where you can alter the advance at any load point to what ever is required, or whether they still work like the age old ones where they only alter the advance by a set amount somewhere between +5 or -5 degrees from the original advance figure, the change is the same value irrespective of the load point. They are said to return drivebility where the engine has been modified, namely increased compression ratio. On the MPI as to date are the only way of improving the situation on highly tuned engines. The SPi, for the price, you might as well buy a fully programable ECU!
Any Superchips dealer should be able to tune it to your engine if you have changed the secification in any way. Minisport being a Superchips dealer, and probibly one of the only places I would take it.
The ECU on the SPI comes in a variety of forms.... dependant on the age and model of the car...... It can be a 2 plug .... or a 1 plug version... it can be imobiliser 'dependant' or not.... if you have a modified engine then you have options to go for with a different ECU, again dependant on your current cars spec... The superchip 'add on' is generally thought to be a bit limited in what it does for the money and certainly wont get you the power gains that other more conventional upgrades will achieve.
Hope this helps

There was an Icon Race Superchip already fitted to my MPi when I bought the car but I really don't know if it makes any difference? When I was suffering misfire problems we (Icklemini) did link it out to check if "it" was causing the problems but it made no difference at all, so after changing all the sensors and several other checks it turned out to be a fuel pressure problem so fitted a PBV (adjustable fuel regulator) which has done the trick.
Since then I have fitted a 52mm TB, K7N Cone Filter and had it set up on the rollers at Southam Mini & Metro Centre - it now runs like a sewing machine so will be keeping the set up "as is" ("if it ain't broke, don't fix it").
Now giving 80 BHP at wheels so I guess it is having an effect?
The next time I take it for RR set up I'll see if they let me do a run "with" and "without" just to see if there's actually any difference? At £40 a run, I won't be prepared to fund it myself!!!!
