Not 100% but i think 5 speed boxes are made by jack knight. My mpi is only 4 speed.

Can we add some sort of screen after the login that just says:

NO MINI EVER LEFT THE PRODUCTION LINE WITH A 5 SPEED GEARBOX

Please Jammy? It'll save an awful lot of time.

Didn't the sport 5 come with the 5 speed gear box...? ;D I was pretty sure that that was the only one that came fitted with a 5 speed as standard?

[edit] Just did a quick google and found this on the miniworld website:

999
Production of Mini Cooper S Sport 5
Details: Fitted with Sportspack and Jack Knight 5 speed gearbox.
Engine size: 1275cc
Original price: £13,650

1999
Production of Mini Cooper S Works
Details: 90bhp tuned engine which was the most powerful engine ever fitted to a full production Mini. 'S Works' badges and decals. Sportspack was an optional add-on as was a Jack Knight five speed gearbox.
Engine size: 1275cc
Original price: £12,495 - £14,595

So Cooper Sport 5 had the 5 speed gear box and Cooper S Works had it as a factory option!

They did not, and posts like that don't help to destory the myth!

This question gets asked several times a month. I think this is the fourth time it's come up this month alone. Please will people stop popping up and saying 'I'm sure they did you know' because they didn't.

Minispeed do a KAD 5 speed gear kit

So do KAD, oddly enough!

Didn't the sport 5 come with the 5 speed gear box...?

It did but it was not a Rover product. It wasn't a production Mini, it was a conversion built by John Cooper Garages to order only. It's no different from a Wood and Pickett or a Radford or any other custom built Minis. The 'box used by JCG was the Jack Knight all-synchro helical 5 speed.

Yes the John Cooper Sport 5...

It was a JCW conversion, never a Rover item, I think the confusion comes where some dealers would offer the conversion, but they never came off the production line with 5 gears ( excluding reverse ;D )

So surely the answer is yes, there is a mini with a 5 speed box!

No more than there's one with a Mercedes or Vauxhall front grille, a Margrave dash, rear seat picnic tables or a minibar.

You're probably right.

The difference with the John Cooper conversions was that they didn't effect the Rover warranty, not that that matters anymore. If you had your car converted by someone else it would invalidate your warranty if anything went wrong with it.

The standard production Mini's and Mini Cooper's never had a five speed gearbox (that includes all spi and mpi models. Rover never made Mini's with 5 speed gearboxes. The Cooper Sport 5 and works s were converted by John Cooper Garages to have a five speed gearbox.
