Hello People of the Styling part:D

I have had a little thought about door cards. I wanted something really simple e.g. blank, nothing on them, so I came up with the idea of getting some dark green acrylic and cutting out and copying the door cards I have already. That means just cutting holes for the handles, winder, lock etc.

What are your thoughts?? They are much appreciated and aren't just ignored.

Cheers

Jack

should look pretty good - and u can always put decals on them if u get bored and change them a bit without ruining them, i would be carefull when drilling the acrylic though - how anoying would it be to cut it out perfectly then crack it when you drill the holes :)

Cheers for the support Mephiston :)

Yeah I was thinking of putting something on them after I had made them and liked them :teehee:

Cheers again, I'll go and get some green acrylic from somewhere. Do you think B&Q will stock something like that??

Acrylic would most likely rattle too much.
And if it's the same stuff we used in DT at school...personally I think it would look a bit naff!

it depends on what kind you get - i dont know where to get it im afraid - but yes it probably would rattle so it maybe worth sticking some thin sound deddening or sticky back foam (sorta stuff used in a dash) to the back of it - facing into the door - that should reduce and possibly illiminate the rattleing

Well rattling could be a problem, but I'll sort it when it comes.
What stuff did you use at school??

Nevermind then :) Yeah as said above, I'll sort it when it happens.

Just some standard acrylic sheet. Smelt horrible when you were cutting it with a bandsaw, and took ages to file down to get the edges smooth. Plus you'd need a very steady hand (or a laser cutter machine) to get the shape just right otherwise it'll look second rate.

think a handy thing when your drilling is tape on the surface, then dril through the tape. think that should stop cracking...

MiniEgg.......???? I'll just use any old random tape I can find :)
Ethel, any ideas where I could get some of this stuff from, I'm still looking at the Green Acrylic as I think it will look smart, when done and correctly done.

Cheers to the both of you.

hi there i own my own company and my sole business is perspex i have evey colour every thickness so if any body is looking for some i can sort them out..

you have to buy it in 3m x 2m sheets but i already hold a massive stock....

if there is a few people looking for them i would be willing to make templates and set up for making them...
