Another way to do it is to move the hinges on the bulkhead and buy a Mk1 bonnet, but this is a bigger job. I do however beleive that the commercial minis had a Mk1 bonnet style with the hinges in the same place as your mini (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong), only problem with that though is finding one!!!

mine fits with standard bonnet lip - I wanted a simple colour coded affair and the mark 1 tash and lip didnt work for me, but otherwise the mark 1 grill fits fine.
Thats a mk3 shape grill in the wavy style. A mk1 has round edges that curves down to the bumper where as your mk3 one has an angle on it.

if i was to debumper the front but have a mk1 grille & must-dash(!) would it look stoopid ? any pics ?

It won't look too ba actually. I have seen it done and it does look nice. I think it looks good on low and wide mini's.
