have been to the garage today to get my wheels balanced and have been informed they can't get the wheels off as a couple of the nuts have caps over that are stuck!

The guy said rover had a special cap removing tool for this and i need to get one as they don't want to use a screwdriver to prize them off.

does anyone have any info on this as it seems odd to me.

Cheers
Dave

if you're on about the tinny metal things on the nuts used on alloys, they are meant to be there and rarely come off.... they just need the right sized socket...

they've obviously just used an air gun on them and spun them...

If it is the nut caps spinning then there is a way of getting them off. I did this on mine and although I was nervous doing it, the nuts seemed fine underneath afterward.

Get a small screwdriver or autopunch (for spot weld drilling, i think there about £3 at Screwfix) then punch a hole in the middle of the cap and then use an old screwdriver the split the cap all the way to the edge. The cap should be easy to pull off from here.

Hope this helps

Sounds like a good idea thanks.

the idea they wont use a screwdriver is because they will damage the caps.

what they need is a plastic tube thing (usually with a yellow sticker on) to remove the caps.

there should be one in some jack bags, but most people loose them.
