Hi there
quite new to all of this, just bought my first mini and im well underway with restoring and modifying it. However i have hit a problem, Rear Seats, so im told it is an MOT failure if they are taken out and just left as metal framework. Can anyone help me out?
Cheers Toby

Not an MOT failure to not have rear seats fitted even if they're originally there, a few people take them out if they have an iffy seatbelt too, if there's no seat then it's not classed as a seat belt!!

Not that i'm an expert or anything, i think you can't have rear seats with no belts, but you can have no rear seats there..

So if you've got seats fitted you need belts, if you don't have seats then your fine. Thats as far as i understand it anyway.

That's pretty much the story for later cars, but it depends on the actual registration date of the car as to whether seat belts are even needed

search for "seat belts" on the vosa website

Search for "seat belts" here

I took one of my 205's for an MOT without rear seats but with the seastbelts still in place, I only got an advisory notice, not a failure for it :)

I've literally just had my MOT.
If you have no seat present but you have seatbelts its a definite FAIL.
If you have no rear seats and no rear seat belts then its no problem!!!

As previously stated it is only necessary to have on the car what is required to drive it safely and what is required for the year of registration. front passenger seat if not in the car they cannot fail it. you do not need some lights (daytime licence) speedo and gauges are not required just the telltale lights for h/lights and fog lights. dont have to have wipers if you have no screen There are loads of funny rules. But if you are unsure of anything then check it with your mot garage as every mot inspector will interpret the guide lines differently.
