I don't know anything about exhausts, anything! So please can someone tell me what I need to get if I want to replace my current pea shooter with a nice new slightly bigger chrome type pipe? I don't really want to change the performance and I don't want a much noisier exhaust. Its just that my current one looks so wimpy! Is there a way of just buying a new pipe (yes I REALLY dont know anything)that fits on the end or do I have to replace the whole thing?

What should I buy/ask for?

Ok, so the exhaust tip fits on the end of what? How does it fix?
What is a manifold?

I know you can buy chavy exhaust tips from Halfrauds, As Shiftyseamus has about 4 sticking out of his Nova.
But they don't look to good. I know Macess used to do chrome exhaust tips which went on a standard Mini exhaust perfect.
But I'm not sure if they still make them.

Take this for example.

(from left to right)

+ Manifold (not all manifolds look like this mind)
+ Y-piece (connects the manifold to the downpipe)
+ Misc. brackets and hangers.
+ 2 box part exhaust (2nd box could be cat or silencer)
+ Downpipe (connects via the Y-piece & the cat/silencer, or if it's a straight through it'll go straight from the Y-piece to the exhaust)

Best thing to do would be to get out and look both under and inside your engine bay, familiarise yourself with the parts.

But what you'd be after would just be the exhaust backbox & silencer if you aren't wanting a loud exhaust.

assuming your mini is a late mini with fuel injection, you can buy pretty much any rear exhaust box you like, and you just need a link pipe to join it to the catalytic converter, something like this:
rear exhaust box + link pipe

The link pipe has an extra silencer in so you'll get the looks, with less noise, although there will be slightly more noise than standard, but it sounds sexy as. i will try to get pics of my exhaust, which is the same as that, although it only has one silencer, so its bloody loud!

I have a single box maniflow 1.75" cat back exhaust on mine and it sounds really nice, its not mega loud but it has a nice sound. Single box = want it loud, twin box= want it slightly quieter, just right for a daily drive I think.

(Putting a 3" play mini on my project though :))

Paul.

Have decided I want a stainless steel side exit back box with upto 2" diameter pipe.
What has everybody got or what do you recommend?

I saw this one....Click me which I thought seemed a fair price, I'm not sure I like the rolled tip though. Has anyone seen one with a straight unrolled pipe lip?

And will I need a link pipe for the above exhaust?

Sorry for question, have managed to learn diddly squat about exhausts in the past month :-

Those tailpipe covers are only chavy when they are bigger than the original pipe. If you get one larger than what your trying to bolt onto then you can see the thinner pipe inside and just looks stupid. If you get a 4" one then it is going to look silly on any car!

Buy a chrome one from an autoshop that is a suitable size for the end of the tailpipe. Its simple, sometimes being just a single bolt and temporary aswell so can always be removed if required.

yeh I've decided to just properly replace the back box now though and not just get a tailpipe.

What do you think of the one in the link? Would I need a link pipe for it?

Have also found this one although not stainless steel RC40
I prefer it because its not got a rolled tail pipe tip.
