Hi all,

Bought some brand new Midland Wheel's 10x6 alloys with Fk07 Falkern tyres fitted (package) from a mate who bought them new and never used them.

However, on inspection, I noticed a bulge in the tyre wall on one of the tyres, so ordered a new tyre from Minispares. Today I took the defect wheel and new tyre to the local tyre shop to have the new tyre fitted. However, they couldnt do it as they couldnt remove the tyre from the alloy.

Undettered, I took it to ATS tyre fitters for their verdict. They managed to remove the old tyre, which they confirmed was badly damaged, when fitted at manufacture. Due to the deep dish style, they were unable to fit the new tyre without damaging it. They could not physically fit the new tyre, without the machine labouring and the beading breaking, as had happened on the original tyre. Has anyone else had experience with this?

ATS had the same opinion as had the 1st local tyre company.

ATS also told me that they worry that the other tyres on the other alloys are more than likely to be the same, but with less damage. They cannot physically see how the tyres were fitted at manufacture.

In other words, all wheels are a huge risk to my safety.

What are my options? - Would other brands of tyre fit, without the risk of damage? i.e softer, to fit over the rim.

Let me guess, they had the face of the wheel upwards? If they had the wheel facing down the tyres will go on easier. I have not fitted tyres to deep dish 10s but have to 13s and you need the wheel well to be as near the top as possible when fitting tyres which on wide wheels is normally face down.

That all abit of a *toilet* really.

If I were you I would get all the tyres changed. Its not worth the risk.

Be interesting to tell the tyre fitters about what Phil is suggesting. Sound like good advice.....

Why does the dish have anything to do with fitting the tyres? Mine have no problems on 10x6's.

The best way I can describe is that the well is in the middle of the wheel. SO its equal distance whether the the alloy is on front or back.

Just found this thread: HERE It seems I'm not the only one.

:)

I'm quite concerned now, I had these same wheels on my cooper before I took it off the road and was intending to refit them + some new tyres, so if anyone finds a solution I will be interested

Apparently the only people able to fir tyres back onto the MWS rim are MWS themselves, as they have a 'special machine' ... saying that, they sure made a mess putting mine on, ripping the beading. I'm wondering if this is the same for all deep dish alloys of the 10x6 size? What about Huddersfield spares ultralights? Can anyone shed any light?

Heard about this before with MWS 6x10's, someone was having trouble getting tyres fitted, in the end he had to take them back to MWS to get them changed!.

I would phone MWS and see how the tyres are fitted, they got them to fit so they got to know.

Another point of mine is that. There must be some unsafe cars out there, there's got to be. :) 165/75/R10's don't fit on without a struggle and in my identified case, without being damaged in the process.

I have had the same problem with some deep 6x10" minilites which also had the well in the middle. they also bulged, the only tire i could get to go on them without bulging was the yokohama 008's which went on fine.

hope thats of some help.

Thanks, might concider that option. Im takin the alloy down to RnM motorbikes in birkenhead tomorrow. All motorbikes have alloys with center wells, so maybe they can help me out... wish me luck. My road trip to Wales depends on it. I was planning to do 115 miles tomorrow, and camping in wasles tues to thurs with a few mates... looks like im in a boring focus zetec :)

Do all 10x6 deep dish rims (regardless of company) have center wells?

hi lund,

i replied about trouble with these alloys when u started a thread a while ago about the bulge that appeared in your tyre.

the mws 10 x 6 are cheap copies and are not made with the well in the correct place. as youve found out, it needs to be offset and not centred in the wheel.

it makes fitting tyres imposible.

minispeed ruined 2 brand spanking yoko a008's trying to get them on mine. on both the beads ripped. and i had a bulge the same as yours.

i would reccomend loosing the wheels and replacing them.

i swapped mine with a guy who races minis for some seats, and replaced them with huddersfield 10 x 6, and they are sooooo much better!! tyres go on like a normal wheel and ive had no problems with them what so ever.

like i said, id advise replacing the wheels, and damaged tyres are a recipe for disaster.

Yes, I remember the thread well! Thanks for the reply. Are the Huddersfield 10x6 wheels the ultralight ones? THESE

Do they have an offset well, like they should?
